It’s been only a few days since Marvel Studios officially announced Avengers 5 and Avengers 6, titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, which are set to be a new back-to-back conclusion of The Multiverse Saga of the MCU. And now, the first of those two movies has reportedly found its director, and it’s someone who has experience with working on a superhero movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Destin Daniel Cretton, who is best known for directing last year’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, signed to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. What’s interesting is that Daniel Cretton was previously also confirmed to direct the Shang-Chi sequel and an unknown Shang-Chi spin-off series for Disney+. He will certainly have a lot of work at Marvel in the next few years.
The first two Avengers movies were directed by Joss Whedon, while Infinity War and Endgame were directed by the Russo Brothers. While the fans hoped to see Russos directing upcoming Avengers movies as well, and even Russos said that Avengers: Secret Wars is their dream project, Kevin Feige said that Russos aren’t connected to the upcoming Avengers movies in any way. Still, Daniel Cretton is set to direct Avengers 5, we still don’t know who will direct Avengers 6, for now.
Destin Daniel Cretton directed last year’s MCU movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings starring Simu Liu. The movie was praised for giving something new and fresh to the MCU, and Cretton’s direction was praised, particularly in the fighting scenes. We don’t know how Cretton will handle the next Avengers movie, which is definitely and lot bigger and more ambitious project than Shang-Chi, but his previous work in the MCU is giving us hope that another great and epic Avengers movie is in front of us.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is set to be released on May 2, 2025!
