Shark Thriller ‘Shiver’ Sets Summer Splash for 2026

Director Tommy Wirkola is diving back into the horror scene with a shark attack flick that’s got a fresh name and a big release date. Previously called ‘Beneath the Storm,’ this movie is now titled ‘Shiver’ and it’s locked in for theaters on July 3, 2026. That’s right—it’s hitting screens during the Fourth of July weekend, perfect timing for a summer scare.

I’m excited about this one because Wirkola knows how to deliver wild, bloody thrills. He’s the guy behind ‘Dead Snow,’ where Nazi zombies wreaked havoc, and ‘Violent Night,’ which turned Santa into an action hero. Now he’s taking on sharks, and if his past work is anything to go by, we’re in for something intense. The story details are still under wraps, but it’s safe to say it’ll involve some serious shark chaos—probably with a twist or two, knowing Wirkola.

Leading the cast is Phoebe Dynevor, who we all know as Daphne from ‘Bridgerton.’ She’s been branching out lately, starring in the edgy thriller ‘Fair Play’ and popping up in projects like the spy flick ‘Inheritance.’ Joining her are Whitney Peak, who charmed us in ‘Hocus Pocus 2,’ and Djimon Hounsou, a powerhouse from films like ‘A Quiet Place: Day One.’ This trio should bring plenty of energy to the screen.

Sony’s the one bringing ‘Shiver’ to us, and they’ve got a knack for summer releases. Think about how ‘It Ends With Us’ lit up the box office last year. July 3 puts this shark tale right in the holiday sweet spot, where folks are looking for a big, fun escape. It’s also a nod to that other famous shark movie—‘Jaws’—which made waves around the same time of year back in 1975.

Filming kicked off in Australia last summer, with spots like Melbourne’s Docklands Studios turning into a stormy, shark-infested setting. Producers Adam McKay and Kevin Messick, the team behind hits like ‘The Big Short,’ are backing this one through their Hyperobject Industries. Wirkola’s writing and directing, so it’s got his personal stamp all over it.

We’ve got a while to wait until 2026, but ‘Shiver’ is already shaping up to be a must-see. A shark horror flick on Fourth of July weekend? Count me in for that bite-sized terror.
