Shayne Topp Just Addressed the Booster Gold Fan Casting Campaign
Fan casting campaigns rarely reach the actor being discussed, let alone earn any kind of direct response from them. Most fade into the endless churn of social media speculation, generating buzz for weeks before quietly disappearing once the next casting rumor takes over.
This particular campaign, however, has managed something rare: it actually made its way to the person at the center of it, and he had something to say about it.
Shayne Topp says he’s open to playing Booster Gold, addressing the fan campaign directly by saying, “I’m not gonna turn it down if an audition comes my way.” The comments come after months of grassroots fan support pushing the “Smosh” star as their top pick to play the time-traveling superhero within James Gunn’s rebuilt DC Universe.
The fan-driven push has been building steadily across social platforms, with dedicated fan edits and concept videos circulating widely on TikTok and YouTube. According to fan casting site MyCast, Topp, known for his work on “Dear Lemon Lima,” “The Big What If,” and “Every [Blank] Ever,” has become a favorite pick among fans specifically because of how naturally his comedic timing and charisma seem to fit Booster Gold’s brash, spotlight-chasing personality.
That fan enthusiasm lines up with Booster Gold’s own growing significance across DC’s broader storytelling plans. According to ScreenRant, DC has been positioning the character as a genuinely pivotal figure within its comics continuity, with writers Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson confirming Booster Gold would serve as the bridge connecting the main DC Universe to a new Absolute Universe as part of the publisher’s larger “All In” initiative.
That elevated status in the comics has only fueled speculation about how prominently the character might eventually factor into James Gunn’s live-action DCU, which has already introduced a sprawling roster of heroes across projects like “Superman,” “Peacemaker,” and the upcoming “Man of Tomorrow.” While no official casting has been announced for Booster Gold within this new continuity, the character’s rising comic book profile makes him an increasingly logical candidate for live-action expansion down the line.
Topp himself has built a substantial following through his nearly two-decade career with Smosh, the YouTube comedy collective he’s been a core cast member of since 2015, alongside hosting duties on the group’s Smosh Mouth podcast. That established comedic pedigree is exactly what fans point to when explaining why he feels like such a natural fit for a character whose defining traits include overconfidence, showmanship, and a genuine soft spot for being the center of attention.
Given how openly receptive Topp has been to the idea, and with fan campaigns showing no signs of slowing down, it’s not hard to imagine DC Studios eventually taking notice if the pressure keeps building. Whether or not that audition call ever actually comes, Topp’s willingness to engage with the fan campaign has only added fuel to one of the more persistent grassroots casting pushes currently circulating in superhero fandom.
