The wait for a return to Edgewater ends this week, as ‘Sheriff Country’ premieres on Friday, October 9, 2026 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. The Fire Country spinoff comes back after a first season finale that left fans stunned with a big reveal.

This guide covers the ‘Sheriff Country’ second season release date, the premiere time, where to watch and what the opening episode has in store for Sheriff Mickey Fox.

Release Date and Renewal for ‘Sheriff Country’

CBS renewed the series on December 3, 2025, well before the first season had finished airing. The network said at the time that the show would return in the 2026 to 2027 television season.

The first season ran 20 episodes and wrapped on May 22, 2026. For months afterward, outlets could only guess at a start date, and some expected an October 2026 debut if the show followed the same pattern as its first year.

The date was settled on July 27. CBS confirmed the October 9 premiere as part of its full fall schedule, and the show’s Instagram account posted a message pointing fans to premiere week on the same day.

Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment, said when the renewal was announced that audiences had quickly embraced both ‘Boston Blue’ and ‘Sheriff Country’ across broadcast and streaming. She credited character driven storytelling and strong talent on both sides of the camera.

Premiere Time on the CBS Friday Lineup

The second season premiere airs at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific, which is 7 p.m. Central, on Friday. The show keeps the same night it held during its first run.

The series anchors a three hour block of Friday programming. ‘Sheriff Country’ airs at 8 p.m., followed by the fifth season of ‘Fire Country’ at 9 p.m. and the second season of ‘Boston Blue’ at 10 p.m. The pairing continues a strategy that has placed the spinoff directly ahead of its parent series.

Viewers can already see part of the early schedule. The second episode, titled “Family Trust,” is set for October 16, and an episode called “No Way In” is listed for November 6, centered on a prison break that turns into a hostage crisis.

CBS has not said how long the season will run. The official episode count has not been announced, though the first season consisted of 20 episodes.

Where to Watch on CBS and Paramount+

The simplest option is live television. The premiere airs on the CBS Television Network and is available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. Those without a streaming plan can also watch through free broadcast with an antenna, or through cable.

Anyone catching up before the new season can do so without much trouble. The first season is available to binge on Paramount+, which makes it a useful refresher on the family secrets that drive the story.

Newer viewers should also know how the show fits into its franchise. It grew out of a backdoor pilot in the second season of ‘Fire Country’, which makes it the franchise’s first true spinoff. Max Thieriot, Joan Rater and Tony Phelan created both series and executive produce them alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed.

Premiere Preview and Cast Changes

The opening episode is titled “Cyclone.” It was written by Matt Lopez and directed by Ed Ornelas. According to the official synopsis, Mickey is still processing a shocking revelation about her family while she races to save a troubled young woman, whose descent into a dangerous criminal operation exposes a growing threat to Edgewater.

Casting adds a notable name to the hour. Ben McKenzie guest stars as Sheriff Wade, a neighboring sheriff called in to assist Mickey who has secrets of his own, and he is also star Morena Baccarin’s real life spouse. Caroline Rhea appears as Gina Fletcher.

The revelation behind that synopsis comes from the finale. Mickey’s mother, whom she believed was dead, turned out to be DEA agent Eva Santos, played by Rachel Ticotin, and the two will have to work together against a Bulgarian cartel. The same report notes that showrunner Matt Lopez told TV Insider there is a lot to unpack as the new season begins.

Behind the scenes, the ensemble is growing. Amanda Arcuri and Ian Quinlan have been promoted to series regulars, joining Baccarin, Matt Lauria, W. Earl Brown, Christopher Gorham and Michele Weaver. With Mickey now forced to work beside a mother she thought was gone, do you believe Eva Santos can earn her daughter’s trust in Edgewater, or will the cartel storyline leave no room for forgiveness?
