‘Shrek 5’ Adds Two New Voices to Its Cast
DreamWorks Animation has just revealed new cast members for the upcoming Shrek 5, bringing some fresh voices to the beloved fairy tale family. Saturday Night Live’s Marcello Hernández and Superman actor Skyler Gisondo will voice Shrek and Fiona’s sons, Fergus and Farkle, adding new dynamics to the family story.
They join returning stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz, who will reprise their iconic roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona. Zendaya is also part of the cast as the couple’s daughter, Felicia. The film is set to hit theaters on June 30, 2027.
Shrek 5 has been a long-anticipated installment in the franchise. Jeffrey Katzenberg, former CEO of DreamWorks Animation, revealed shortly after Shrek 2’s success in 2004 that the story had been planned for five films from the start.
.Over the years, though, plans shifted, with Shrek Forever After (2010) initially intended as the final chapter. Bill Damaschke, former head of creative production at DreamWorks, said at the time, “All that was loved about Shrek in the first film is brought to the final film.”

Despite previous announcements suggesting the Shrek saga had concluded, hints of a fifth film continued to surface. Katzenberg noted in 2014, “We like to let them have a little bit of time to rest…But I think you can be confident that we’ll have another chapter in the Shrek series. We’re not finished, and more importantly, neither is he.”
Over the next decade, plans evolved, with production delays and new creative leadership. Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination, was announced as executive producer for Shrek 5, overseeing the return of the franchise’s original cast.
Production officially began in January 2024, with DreamWorks confirming the film would be directed by Walt Dohrn and co-directed by Conrad Vernon, who co-directed Shrek 2. The release date shifted multiple times, most recently landing on June 30, 2027. Earlier this year, a teaser confirmed Zendaya’s role as Felicia, Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, cementing the family expansion.
