‘Silo’ May Not Be Ending After Season 4, a Spinoff Rumor Changes Everything

Silo may be heading toward its final season on Apple TV, but a new rumor suggests the story could continue even after the main series comes to an end. Fans have spent years exploring Hugh Howey’s mysterious underground world through the Apple TV adaptation, and Season 4 is expected to bring the current story to a conclusion. However, according to a new report from Apple TV insider Sigmund Judge, Apple may already be preparing another project connected to the Silo universe. The surprising part is that Howey himself appears to have no knowledge of it, making the rumor even more confusing.

According to the report, Judge says Apple TV could be developing a spinoff or expansion of Silo that may enter pre-production later this year. The alleged project is reportedly connected to Howey’s upcoming Silo 40 trilogy, which is expected to explore another mysterious underground structure within the larger world created by the author. If the report is accurate, Apple would potentially be moving toward a screen adaptation of material before those new books have even been released.

That would be a major development for the franchise because Apple has consistently presented Season 4 as the ending of the main Silo story. The fourth season has already wrapped production, with filming reportedly finishing in March. Normally, once a television production is completed, studios begin taking down expensive sets that are no longer needed. Judge has pointed to the fact that the main Silo sets have reportedly remained standing for almost six months as possible evidence that Apple could have plans to use them again. That does not prove a spinoff is happening, but it is certainly enough to make fans wonder why the sets have not disappeared.

Judge has also claimed that hiring for the alleged new project has already started. That detail makes the rumor sound much more specific than a simple fan theory, but Apple has not officially announced anything. The company has not confirmed that a Silo spinoff is in development, and the public plan remains for the story to end with its fourth season. Until Apple makes an announcement, fans have to treat the entire situation as speculation rather than established fact.

The biggest complication comes directly from Hugh Howey. When Judge’s original claim reached social media, Howey responded on Threads and appeared to dismiss the story. The author wrote, “Yo, this is news to me. So probably not true,” which is about as direct a denial as fans could expect. If Howey genuinely had no idea that Apple was developing a project based on his upcoming books, the report would seem much less likely to be accurate. At the same time, Judge did not appear to back away from his claim.

Instead, Judge responded to Howey by writing, “I appreciate you wanting to keep a surprise,” which immediately gave fans another reason to speculate. That response could simply have been a playful comment, but it has also led some fans to wonder whether Howey was intentionally denying the project because Apple wants to keep it secret. There is no evidence proving that interpretation, but the unusual exchange has made the rumor even more interesting.

A potential spinoff would make sense from Apple’s business perspective. Silo has become one of Apple TV’s most recognizable science-fiction series, and the streamer has shown interest in expanding successful franchises instead of letting them disappear after one story. Other Apple science-fiction properties have already received expansion projects, including Star City, which is connected to For All Mankind, while another project is tied to the Monarch franchise. Continuing Silo in some form would therefore fit with a larger strategy of building recognizable science-fiction universes.

The upcoming Silo 40 books could also give Apple plenty of new material to explore. The original series is based on Howey’s Silo novels, which created a world filled with secrets, strict rules, hidden histories, and enormous underground structures. A story focusing on another silo could allow the television franchise to explore a completely different group of characters while still keeping the same mysterious world and themes. It could also give fans answers to questions that the main series may not have enough time to address.

Still, fans should not assume that a spinoff is guaranteed. The evidence currently consists of insider claims, reportedly standing production sets, alleged hiring activity, and a strange exchange between Judge and Howey. None of those things equals an official announcement from Apple. Howey’s own response also makes the situation much harder to understand. If he truly knows nothing about the project, the rumor could simply be incorrect. If he is playing along with a secret plan, however, Apple may have a much bigger Silo announcement waiting in the future.

For now, Season 4 remains the confirmed conclusion to the main Silo series. But the possibility of another show means the end of that story may not necessarily mean the end of the world itself. Whether Apple is secretly preparing another chapter or fans are simply connecting clues that do not belong together, the rumor has given Silo viewers something new to talk about. After spending so much time wondering what is happening inside the silos, fans may soon have another question to answer: what happens after the final season ends?
