‘Silo’ Star Ashley Zukerman Teases a “Complicated” Final Season After That Daniel-Troy Cliffhanger

Dystopian mysteries live and die by how well they land their reveals, and few shows have built quite as much anticipation around a single identity twist as this one. After three seasons of slowly unraveling who really controls the underground silos, the show’s latest finale finally confirmed a fan theory that had been simmering for months.

That confirmation, revealing Daniel’s true identity as the Silo 1 operative known as Troy, closed out Season 3 while opening up an entirely new set of questions about where the story goes from here. With Season 4 already filmed and waiting in the wings, fans have been desperate for any hint about how the show plans to resolve the moral tangle it just created.

Ashley Zukerman is teasing a “complicated” fourth and final season following the surprising cliffhanger involving his character Daniel-Troy. Speaking with SYFY Wire in a post-mortem interview about the September 4 finale, Zukerman revealed that everything fans want answered will get answered, describing the upcoming season as so much more complicated than anyone could have imagined and calling it a very profound season.

Zukerman also addressed the wave of online speculation that had built up around his character’s true identity throughout the season. He said he’s been happy with how wrong everyone turned out to be, adding that no one seeing the twist coming has been a genuine joy for him as an actor.

Beyond teasing what’s ahead, Zukerman opened up about the moral weight of playing a character split between two identities in a separate interview. Speaking with TV Fanatic, he explained that he finds it far more interesting to say that Daniel is responsible for what Troy has done, rather than treating the memory-wiped persona as a completely separate entity, noting that other characters who underwent similar erasure couldn’t bring themselves to do what Troy did, suggesting something within Daniel himself made it possible.

At the same time, Zukerman described Troy as a striking example of how profoundly circumstances can reshape a person’s sense of morality. He explained that Troy’s history no longer provides him with context for his decisions, and that his belief in the mission itself has become the driving force behind everything he does now.

Zukerman compared Troy’s situation to the classic ethical dilemma of sacrificing one person to save many others, framing the character’s actions as rooted in a genuine, if disturbing, conviction that exterminating one silo serves the survival of humanity as a whole.

Zukerman also touched on how the show’s adaptation choices have diverged from Hugh Howey’s original trilogy, on which the series is based. He acknowledged that longtime book fans were likely taken aback to see Daniel, called Donald in the novels, not directly participate in building the silos the way his literary counterpart does.

Despite that, Zukerman said the show absolutely sticks close to the books in terms of its core themes and overall story, even though the way events unfold plays out very differently on screen. He revealed he deliberately avoided reading the source material covering the events depicted in Season 3, since the middle novel “Shift” took center focus for much of the season.

With Season 4 already filmed but not expected to premiere until next summer, fans face a considerable wait before getting the full resolution to Daniel and Troy’s story. Zukerman made clear he doesn’t feel compelled to spoil any specifics ahead of that premiere, keeping the show’s central mysteries firmly intact for now.

Given how thoroughly the Season 3 finale upended fan expectations, Zukerman’s comments suggest ‘Silo’ isn’t done delivering surprises as it heads into its concluding chapter. Whether the show can stick the landing on such a morally complex character arc remains one of the biggest open questions heading into the final season.
