‘Sinners’ Set for IMAX Re-Release – Here’s When
Just in time for Halloween, Ryan Coogler’s acclaimed horror film Sinners is returning to select IMAX theaters for a limited one-week run.
The movie will screen from October 30 through November 5, giving fans another chance to experience the film on the big screen. Variety first reported the news after speaking with Coogler at a recent screening. Polygon has reached out to Warner Bros. for confirmation.
Sinners, which Coogler wrote, produced, and directed, is set in 1932 in the Mississippi Delta. It follows twin brothers, played by Michael B. Jordan, who come back to their hometown only to face a supernatural threat.
The cast also includes Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton in his debut, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller, and Delroy Lindo.

The film was developed through Coogler’s Proximity Media, with Jordan attached from the start. Announced in January 2024, Warner Bros. acquired the rights after a competitive bidding process. Filming ran from April to July 2024, and Ludwig Göransson, a longtime Coogler collaborator, composed the score and served as executive producer.
Sinners first premiered at AMC Lincoln Square in New York City on April 3, followed by a U.S. release on April 18. The film earned $366.7 million worldwide, including $278.6 million in North America, and received widespread critical praise.
On Rotten Tomatoes, 97 percent of critics gave positive reviews, while Metacritic scored it 84 out of 100. Audiences also loved it, with CinemaScore giving it an “A,” the highest grade for a horror film in 35 years.
Critics highlighted Coogler’s direction and Jordan’s performance. Rolling Stone’s A.A. Dowd said Coogler was “swinging wide and far beyond the boundaries of franchise fare,” and Peter Travers of ABC News called it “Coogler and Jordan’s best and most daring work yet.” Some reviewers noted that the story’s second half leaned heavily into the supernatural, which they found less compelling than the grounded first half, though Jordan’s acting remained praised.
Coogler has cited From Dusk Till Dawn as an inspiration for the film and compared its style to The Faculty. Many fans who missed the IMAX experience during its initial release—or didn’t get a chance to see it in that format, will have the opportunity to enjoy Coogler’s vision on one of the world’s largest screens this Halloween.
