Skyrim: Pros and Cons of Making a Skill Legendary
Skyrim’s radiant quest system is a source of neverending content that allows you to play Skyrim almost indefinitely. But what’s the point of playing Skyrim indefinitely if you stop leveling – surprisingly quickly? And what about all those perks you wanted to try out but never managed to activate due to a lack of perk points? That’s why, in Skyrim patch 1.9, legendary skills were introduced that were supposed to solve that problem. In today’s guide, we’re going to analyze the pros and cons of making a skill legendary in Skyrim.
How do you make a skill legendary in Skyrim?
You can make any skill in Skyrim legendary as long as you’ve reached Master rank (reached level 100). Once you mark your skill as legendary, the skill will be reset to level 15, and all perks points you’ve allocated to that skill will be refunded to you. You can make any skill legendary multiple times. Each skill you mark as legendary will have a small Imperial dragon icon underneath with a number indicating the amount of time you have made that skill legendary.
What are the pros of making a skill Legendary in Skyrim?
First, legendary skills allow you to exceed the previous level cap of 81. You can continue leveling as long as you want. The mechanic also allows you to keep earning perk points, and eventually, you will be able to unlock all perks for all skills in all skill trees. Also, if you’re determined to play a specific type of character, for example, magic oriented, the ability to make a skill legendary allows you to level up way past the level cap without using other weapons or stealth-oriented skills. To sum it up, you don’t have to leave your comfort zone to level up indefinitely.
What are the cons of making a skill Legendary in Skyrim?
The cons of making a skill Legendary in Skyrim are mostly related to the fact that you’re stuck with a low skill surrounded by high-level enemies. Remember, the world of Skyrim scales with your overall level, not with your skill levels. The second issue with making a skill legendary is the fact that some skills are harder (and slower) to level up the second time around.
For example, pickpocketing might be tricky to level up several times due to the fact that numerous items in NPC’s pockets don’t respawn it is possible, albeit rare, to run out of items to pickpocket. You also don’t have access to skill-book points since you’ve already used them, leveling your skills to level 100 the first time. It’s important to note that some skills, like enchanting, require the exact amount of effort no matter how many times you level up that skill from scratch.
The choice of making a skill legendary in Skyrim is entirely up to you, but you should keep all the pros and cons in mind. The best advice we can give you is, don’t make all your skills legendary at the same time in order to avoid getting too weak late-game!
