‘Slow Horses’ Star Jack Lowden Responds to James Bond Rumors, but He’s Not Giving Anything Away
The race to become the next James Bond has become one of Hollywood’s most closely watched casting stories. With Denis Villeneuve directing the next film from a script by Steven Knight, and producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman on board, fans have been debating who will succeed Daniel Craig, whose final outing was ‘No Time to Die’.
Jack Lowden has been at the center of much of that speculation. The Scottish actor, known for playing an intelligence officer in ‘Slow Horses’, has been widely reported as one of the frontrunners, and recent reports suggested he took part in final screen tests in London alongside Callum Turner and Josh O’Connor.
Now Lowden has spoken about the speculation for the first time. In an interview with GQ, published this week but recorded in September, he called the attention very flattering and said it’s nice to be mentioned for any role.
But fans hoping for a clear answer will have to keep waiting. Lowden made it clear he wasn’t going to add to the noise, carefully avoiding confirming or denying whether he’s in contention. He also noted how quickly Bond talk follows young male actors, joking that it starts the minute you’re seen in a suit.
Lowden’s response also touched on comments made by his ‘Slow Horses’ co-star Gary Oldman. On Canada’s ‘The Morning Show’, Oldman said the new Bond had already been chosen and that he had his fingers crossed for Lowden.
Oldman later clarified that he didn’t actually know who had landed the role, but was hoping it was Lowden. Responding to Oldman’s support, Lowden called his co-star a sweetheart, but said he doesn’t really listen to the speculation.
Amazon has reportedly completed multiple screen tests for the next James Bond, with Jacob Elordi and Jack Lowden among those tested Jack Lowden odds are at an all-time high. https://t.co/7ryG4LZXce

Lowden’s name has been near the top of the betting markets for months. In late October, Kalshi showed him narrowly trading places with Turner for the lead, while a ScreenRant audience poll showed strong fan support for Lowden over his rivals.
According to Men’s Journal, Lowden, Turner and O’Connor were reported as the 3 finalists in the casting process. Harris Dickinson and Jacob Elordi, who had previously been linked to the role, were reportedly no longer in the running.
Amazon MGM Studios hasn’t commented on the casting. Turner has also said he knows nothing about it and won’t comment. Many fans see Lowden as a natural fit for 007. His work in ‘Slow Horses’, a series about failed MI5 agents, has shown his ability to handle spy drama, stunts and the world of British intelligence.
Supporters have also pointed to his intensity and screen presence. While nothing is official, his inclusion in the reported final screen tests has only added to the excitement. Reports suggest that the new James Bond could be announced before the end of the year.
Until Amazon MGM makes it official, fans will keep reading into every interview and comment from the reported contenders. Lowden’s careful response may not settle the debate, but it shows he’s well aware of the attention. Whether he ends up as 007 or not, his name will stay at the center of the conversation until the studio reveals its choice.
