Tom Welling headed to New York Comic Con this month to celebrate a major milestone. ‘Smallville’, the series in which he played Clark Kent for 10 seasons, marks its 25th anniversary on October 16, and the cast reunited for a special panel at the Javits Center.

Before the celebrations even began, however, the 49-year-old actor found himself trending for an entirely different reason. He shared an Instagram Story showing the New York skyline from his hotel room, but fans quickly noticed that the window had captured his reflection while he wasn’t wearing any clothes.

The photo reportedly stayed online for at least 10 hours before Welling deleted it, and screenshots spread rapidly across social media. His representatives declined to comment, but it now seems the actor is ready to laugh about it himself.

Welling responded by leaving a cheeky comment on an Instagram Reel that parodied the incident. The video showed a man posing as a tourist filming the city, with on-screen text joking about spotting Welling standing at his hotel window on October 10.

In his reply, Welling quipped that he had simply come for the sights. The self-aware response delighted fans, many of whom praised him for handling the situation with humor rather than embarrassment.

Welling’s ‘Smallville’ co-star Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor on the series, couldn’t let the opportunity pass. The 54-year-old recreated the now-infamous image, snapping a selfie in his own hotel window while wearing a T-shirt and boxers.

To keep things family-friendly, Rosenbaum held up a sign reading “perverts” over his lower body. He tagged Welling and the official New York Comic Con account, playfully suggesting he was simply looking out for his old friend.

Welling took the teasing in stride. He reshared Rosenbaum’s post to his own Instagram Stories, adding Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ song “Empire State of Mind” for good measure. Despite the online chatter, Welling kept his focus on the fans. He later posted a photo of himself speaking at the convention, inviting followers to come and see him at New York Comic Con.

The comment section, unsurprisingly, filled up with references to the hotel window mishap. Still, the overall tone was lighthearted, with many fans simply happy to see him back with his former castmates.

Welling joined Rosenbaum, Kristin Kreuk, Erica Durance and Julie Snyder for ‘The Road to Superman: 25 Years of Smallville’ panel. The event offered a nostalgic look back at the series that followed Clark Kent’s journey toward becoming the Man of Steel.

During the panel, Welling even recalled another embarrassing photo incident from the show’s filming days. It seems the actor has a long history of camera mishaps, and he’s clearly learned to laugh about them.

What could have been an awkward moment has instead become one of the weekend’s funniest stories. Welling’s willingness to poke fun at himself, combined with Rosenbaum’s playful trolling, turned the incident into a shared joke between longtime friends.

For ‘Smallville’ fans, the exchange was also a reminder of the cast’s enduring chemistry. Twenty-five years after the series premiered, Clark and Lex are still keeping things entertaining.
