Snoop Dogg recently opened up about his discomfort with LGBTQ+ representation in children’s movies, saying he’s now “scared to go to the movies.” The rapper shared his thoughts during a recent episode of the It’s Giving podcast, explaining that he struggled to process what he saw in the Pixar film Lightyear while watching it with his grandson.

“What you see is what you see, and they’re putting it everywhere,” Snoop said. He recalled the moment his grandson noticed one of the film’s protagonists has two mothers.

“They’re like, ‘She had a baby — with another woman.’ Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie, is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!’”

The rapper admitted he was caught off guard. “Oh ******, I didn’t come in for this *****. I just came to watch the goddamn movie,” he said.

But his grandson continued asking questions, and Snoop admitted it left him unprepared. “They just said, she and she had a baby — they’re both women. How does she have a baby?” he recalled. “It f***** me up. I’m like, scared to go to the movies. Y’all throwing me in the middle of ****** that I don’t have an answer for.”

Snoop elaborated on why he feels LGBTQ+ themes are inappropriate for young children. “These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer,” he said.

Lightyear, which tells the origin story of the iconic Toy Story character Buzz Lightyear, features Chris Evans as the voice of the spaceman. In the film, Buzz’s best friend and co-officer Alisha Hawthorne, voiced by Uzo Aduba, is shown marrying and raising a child with her partner Kiko in a montage.

The depiction of Disney’s first prominent LGBTQ+ character and its first same-sex kiss sparked controversy even before the film’s release. The kiss was almost removed, but Pixar employees pushed to keep it in the final cut.

Snoop Dogg, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., has faced criticism in the past for remarks seen as homophobic or transphobic. He previously called Caitlyn Jenner a “science project” and used an anti-gay slur in a 2014 Instagram post.

Following his recent comments, some fans and critics have called for him to be replaced as the headline performer at the upcoming Australian Football League Grand Final.

Whether fans agree or disagree with Snoop’s stance, his comments have reignited debates over LGBTQ+ representation in media aimed at children and how parents navigate these discussions.
