New images from the set of Prime Video’s Tomb Raider series give fans a first clear look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft. The photos show her filming an intense night scene in Surrey. The setting is dark and wet. Rain pours down as she moves through a wooded area during a fight sequence.

In the scene, Turner holds a knife and runs through rough ground. She appears injured and exhausted. The action ends with her escaping on a motorbike. The bike is driven by Martin Bobb-Semple, who plays Zip. In the Tomb Raider games, Zip is Lara’s tech expert and close partner.

The series is set to debut on Prime Video in 2027. Production is already underway.

Turner has been open about how much work she has put into the role. In an interview with ScreenRant, she explained that her training started long before filming. I can’t say much, but my preparation began in February [2025]. I’ve been training for a long time now, coming up on a year, and we’re going to start shooting in January. I’m really excited, but I feel prepped, and I feel really lucky to have such a great relationship with Amazon, and I’m excited for the world to see what we do with Lara and Tomb Raider. I think it’s going to be something special.

She also spoke about the physical demands during an appearance on The Julia Cunningham Show. We’ve been doing eight hours a day, five days a week since February last year, of training. Yeah, so it’s been a lot. She added, I’ve learned I have a perpetual back problem, but I also realised that it’s much easier to kind of build muscle if you’ve ever worked out before in your life, which I never had, so it has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape.

Turner is widely known for playing Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones. However, she said that role did not involve much combat training. No, I was the cool queen who, like, didn’t have to do that. I also just kind of was the one that got beat up, not the one doing the beating. So, it’s quite nice to learn how to throw a punch and not just take it.

The new series appears to present a tougher and more grounded version of Lara Croft. The focus seems to be on physical action and survival. The set photos highlight a more tactical and realistic approach to the character.

This project could show a different side of Sophie Turner and help reshape Lara Croft for a new audience. The long training schedule suggests the team is taking the action seriously. What do you think about this new version of Lara Croft? Share your thoughts in the comments.
