‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ Sets New Release Date
Sony has set a new release date for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the third film in the animated Spider-Verse trilogy.
After multiple delays and even being briefly removed from the schedule, the highly anticipated movie will now hit theaters on June 18, 2027, which falls on Father’s Day weekend, Deadline reports.
The film was originally slated for March 29, 2024, but production delays and the SAG-AFTRA strike caused the date to be pushed back. It was later moved to June 4, 2027, then June 25, before the final decision to release it a week earlier.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse continues the story of Miles Morales, voiced by Shameik Moore, who finds himself trapped in an alternate universe while trying to save his family.
The movie is directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, with a screenplay by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham. Returning cast members include Hailee Steinfeld, Jason Schwartzman, Karan Soni, Daniel Kaluuya, and Nicolas Cage.
The trilogy is set in a multiverse of alternate Spider-Men and Spider-Women, starting with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018. Sony had begun developing the sequel even before the first movie premiered, eventually splitting it into two films. Work on Beyond the Spider-Verse ramped up after the release of Across the Spider-Verse in 2023, but the strike paused production, delaying voice recordings and animation work.
Production resumed in December 2023, and the final release schedule was confirmed today.
The movie will face competition from other big releases, but Sony appears to have chosen Father’s Day strategically to attract families and young audiences, Deadline reports.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. It promises to wrap up the Spider-Verse trilogy with more action, emotion, and the colorful multiverse adventures fans have come to expect.
