‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Casts Marvin Jones III as Notable Supervillain
Marvin Jones III is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Deadline reports that the Black Lightning actor has been cast as Tombstone in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Marvel and Sony have not released an official statement on the casting yet.
Jones already has history with the character. He voiced Tombstone in the animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and will do so again in the upcoming Beyond the Spider-Verse. Now, he will also play the villain in live action.
Tombstone, whose real name is Lonnie Lincoln, is a longtime foe of Spider-Man in the comics. He was first introduced in 1988 and is known for his pale skin, tall frame, and cold demeanor.
Born with albinism, Lincoln grew up feeling different from those around him and turned to crime at a young age. He became a feared enforcer, working for mob bosses and using intimidation to gain control.
One of Tombstone’s most notable storylines involves his connection with Daily Bugle editor Robbie Robertson.
The two were classmates as teenagers, and Robbie once backed down from exposing Lincoln’s crimes after being threatened. Years later, their past came back to haunt them when Tombstone returned as a top enforcer in New York, forcing Robbie to face the secret he had kept for decades.
Production on Spider-Man: Brand New Day started in August, with filming in Glasgow, Scotland, and soundstage work at Pinewood Studios in England. The movie is part of Marvel’s Phase Six and is set to release in U.S. theaters on July 31, 2026.
Marvin Jones III already proved he can play menacing villains in Black Lightning and as the voice of Tombstone. Bringing him into the MCU feels like a strong choice, especially since fans already associate him with the character. What do you think about Jones taking on Tombstone in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
