‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Could Steal ‘No Way Home’s’ Box Office Crown This Weekend
Tom Holland’s friendly neighborhood hero has been building toward this moment for months, and the hype machine shows no signs of slowing down. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ picks up four years after the reality bending finale of ‘No Way Home,’ finding Peter Parker isolated in a city that no longer remembers who he is. The film also brings back Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo, with Destin Daniel Cretton taking over directing duties.
Anticipation for the film has already broken records before a single ticket was sold. The first trailer pulled in a record 718.6 million views in 24 hours, nearly doubling the previous benchmark set by ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ and briefly overtaking ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ as the biggest 24 hour video launch in media history. That kind of digital frenzy has fans and analysts alike wondering just how big the opening weekend could get.
Now a viral post from account MyTimeToShineHello is putting a number on that excitement, sharing that prediction market traders believe ‘Brand New Day’ is on track for the second biggest domestic debut in box office history. According to the chart shown in the post, Polymarket bettors were giving the film an 84 percent chance of topping $280 million in its opening weekend. If those traders are right, the film would become only the 10th movie ever to cross $200 million on opening weekend, and would leap straight to second on the all time list, ahead of ‘Spider-Man No Way Home’ and behind only ‘Avengers Endgame.’
Traditional tracking services have been far more conservative but still bullish. Deadline reported a projected 195 million dollar domestic opening and a 465 million dollar global debut, while Boxoffice Pro’s forecast placed the film between 230 and 250 million domestically and Box Office Theory projected 249 million. Sony itself has stuck to a more modest estimate of around 190 to 195 million dollars domestically from 4,300 North American theaters.
Even the low end of those numbers would make history. Even at the most conservative projection, the film’s three day take would be more than enough to top Toy Story 5’s 159.6 million dollar debut as the biggest opening weekend of 2026. Exhibitors seem to agree, with ‘Brand New Day’ accounting for 49 percent of this weekend’s showtimes and the film already holding a 91 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

There is also a strange twist buried in the numbers. Holland could end up competing against himself at the box office, since he also stars in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey,’ which has sat atop domestic charts since mid July. If both projections hold, Holland and Zendaya could occupy the top two spots at the weekend box office simultaneously.
Whether the final number lands closer to Sony’s cautious estimate or the eye popping figure prediction markets are chasing, one thing is clear, Spider-Man is still box office’s biggest draw. The gap between traditional tracking and Polymarket’s optimism has turned this opening weekend into its own kind of spectacle before the movie even starts. Do you think ‘Spider-Man Brand New Day’ actually pulls off a top two all time opening, or are the traders getting a little too swept up in web slinger fever?
