‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is officially moving forward with production this week, according to a report by The Glasgow Times on X. The movie will start filming in Glasgow on August 1, and the city streets are already getting ready for the big shoot.

Cameras will be rolling soon, and parts of the city center are being transformed to fit the film’s scenes.

This next Spider-Man movie will follow the recent Marvel release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps and will see Tom Holland return as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man. Details about the plot are still mostly a secret, but fans do know that Jon Bernthal will be back as the Punisher.

Also joining the cast are Sadie Sink, known from Stranger Things, and Liza Colón-Zayas from The Bear, although their roles haven’t been revealed yet. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon will also return as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson and Ned Leeds.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently shared some insights about the film. He said, “I think there’s a promise at the end of No Way Home that, for as sad as it is, that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life. We are seeing, for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories, him being a proper Spider-Man. Him being, by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with—for lack of a better term—street-level crime as opposed to world-ending events that he faced when working with the other characters.”

Feige also added, “So when you do that, you say, ‘OK, who are the other street-level characters that we’ve never seen him interact with?’ And of course, I love that the Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic, and that great cover . . . I don’t wanna say too much, but I will say too much. [Director Destin Daniel Cretton] is doing an amazing job right now on that movie. It starts shooting very soon, and he’s got 8 or 9 comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie. It’s super cool.”

The journey toward this new film has had its ups and downs. Back in 2019, plans for a fourth Spider-Man movie were already in development alongside No Way Home. Tom Holland once mentioned that No Way Home was supposed to be his last Spider-Man film under contract, but he remained open to continuing if the story felt right.

He also expressed interest in a film about Miles Morales. Meanwhile, producer Amy Pascal talked about plans for a new trilogy starring Holland, though Sony had not finalized anything. Kevin Feige assured fans that Marvel and Sony were working together smoothly this time after some earlier partnership hiccups.

Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, was brought on to direct Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Filming was scheduled to start in mid-2025, but the official start in Glasgow will be August 1, 2025. The movie is set to release on July 31, 2026.

Besides the main cast, new actors like Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas have joined the project. Jon Bernthal’s return as the Punisher adds a gritty edge to the film. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon will also be back, though how much they appear is still a mystery.

This production update means Spider-Man fans are getting closer to seeing a fresh chapter in Peter Parker’s story, focusing more on street-level crime and character-driven action rather than the huge world-saving events of past films. The visuals and storytelling are expected to bring classic comic moments to life in new ways, promising an exciting adventure when it hits theaters in 2026.
