‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Is Tracking Toward a Jaw-Dropping $2 Billion Box Office Run

Tom Holland has spent the better part of a decade webslinging his way into blockbuster history, and the countdown to his next solo outing has fans buzzing in a way few franchises can manage. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ arrives as the fourth chapter in Holland’s run as Peter Parker, picking up the pieces after the multiverse chaos of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. Anticipation has been building for months, but the last few weeks of tracking data have turned this into one of the most closely watched releases of the year.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, best known for helming ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’, the film brings back Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned, with Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, and Liza Colón-Zayas joining the cast. The trailer alone made headlines, cracking one billion views faster than any trailer in Hollywood history. That kind of reach has translated directly into presale numbers that have industry trackers scrambling to keep up.

This is where the real story lives. According to a report from Dark Horizons, GlobalBoxOffice’s tracking figures point to a worldwide opening weekend of roughly $800 million, with more than $300 million of that coming from domestic ticket sales alone. If that estimate holds, it would mark the second biggest global opening weekend ever recorded, trailing only ‘Avengers Endgame’s’ massive $1.2 billion debut. Some corners of the industry have gone even further, with Global Box Office on X projecting a domestic opening between $260 million and $300 million, a range that would put ‘Brand New Day’ in the same rarefied air as ‘Endgame’ itself.

Not every tracker agrees on the scale, and that disagreement is part of what makes this release so fascinating. Deadline has stuck with a more conservative estimate, projecting a domestic opening between $180 million and $190 million, which would still stand as the best domestic opening of the year so far. Box Office Pro has landed in the middle with a forecast of $230 million to $250 million, while Box Office Theory has swung as high as $274 million before settling closer to $249 million.

Context helps explain why expectations are so high. ‘No Way Home’ opened to $260.1 million domestically back in December 2021, eventually racking up close to $1.9 billion globally, all without a release in China. ‘Brand New Day’ is landing day and date in that market this time around, and it carries a production budget of $225 million, giving it plenty of room to climb well past its predecessor if the numbers cooperate.

Industry analysts seem convinced the character himself is the reason none of this feels far fetched. Jeff Bock, an analyst at Exhibitor Relations, told Variety that superhero fatigue may be real everywhere else, but it hasn’t touched Spider-Man, pointing instead to what he calls consequence fatigue plaguing other corners of the genre. Theaters certainly seem to believe him, with some venues scheduling showtimes as frequently as every fifteen minutes for opening weekend.

Whether ‘Brand New Day’ actually clears that $2 billion threshold remains to be seen, but between the presale frenzy, the trailer records, and the sheer range of tracking numbers already in play, it’s shaping up to be the biggest test of Spider-Man’s box office pull yet. Do you think Peter Parker can swing his way past ‘No Way Home’ and into a new franchise record?
