‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Just Beat an ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Box Office Record

Marvel’s box office history has always leaned heavily on the Avengers name to set the industry’s biggest benchmarks, with ‘Avengers: Endgame‘ standing as the gold standard for domestic superhero performance since its record-breaking 2019 run. For years, that $858.3 million domestic total felt like a number only another true ensemble event could realistically threaten.

That assumption held for six years, largely because building an audience that massive typically requires months of sustained theatrical momentum. ‘Endgame’ itself needed a full 140 days in theaters to reach that exact total, a pace that made sense given the sheer scale of closing out over a decade of interconnected storytelling.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ just shattered that timeline entirely. According to Box Office Mojo data, Tom Holland’s latest solo outing reached that same $858.3 million domestic figure in just 25 days, needing less than a fifth of the time ‘Endgame’ took to hit an identical number.

That blistering pace has been baked into the film’s performance since its opening weekend. ‘Brand New Day’ debuted to $360 million domestically, officially breaking ‘Endgame’s’ previous all-time opening record of $357.1 million, according to Deadline’s box office coverage. Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group Chairman and CEO Tom Rothman celebrated the milestone at the time, saying, “360 million thank-yous to all the filmmakers, actors, producers, and to my colleagues at Sony, who created such a fantastic film and an exceptional marketing and distribution campaign. Records are made to be broken, but we will take great pride in this one, for as long as we hold it.”

The film’s momentum never really let up from there. ‘Brand New Day’ also became the fastest movie ever to reach $500 million domestically, hitting that mark in just seven days compared to ‘Endgame’s’ eight-day pace back in 2019, according to Yahoo’s reporting on the film’s ongoing box office run.

Worldwide, the comparison looks a little different. ‘Brand New Day’ has generated approximately $2.22 billion globally since its July 31 release, a genuinely massive number, but still trailing ‘Endgame’s’ staggering $2.799 billion lifetime worldwide total, which remains one of the highest-grossing hauls in box office history behind only ‘Avatar.’

That gap largely comes down to international performance rather than any weakness in the film’s overall reception. ‘Brand New Day’ currently holds a 90 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, and its box office trajectory suggests Spider-Man may have officially overtaken the Avengers as Marvel’s most dependable domestic draw, even if the ensemble franchise still holds the edge on the largest global stage.

With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to arrive later this year and rumors already circulating about a potential Spider-Man appearance in the eventual ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ Marvel fans may soon get a direct answer to which franchise can truly claim box office supremacy going forward. For now, though, ‘Brand New Day’s’ record-shattering pace has made one thing clear: Spider-Man’s popularity at the domestic box office has never been stronger.
