‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Just Joined One of the Most Exclusive Clubs in Box Office History

Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as Spider-Man has spent nearly two months rewriting box office expectations, and the records keep piling up even this far into its theatrical run. What started as an already record-breaking opening weekend has since snowballed into one of the most dominant box office performances of the entire decade.

That dominance became clear almost immediately. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ opened to a record-setting $360.1 million domestic weekend and a staggering $932 million globally, before going on to become the second-fastest film ever to cross $2 billion worldwide, reaching that milestone in just 17 days, trailing only ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in that particular race.

Now, the film has added yet another distinction to its growing list of achievements. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has officially become just the fifth Hollywood film in history to cross $1.5 billion at the international box office alone, a threshold reached by only a handful of films ever.

That milestone came during the film’s seventh overseas weekend, where it added $19 million despite a 27.2% drop from the previous frame, pushing its total international haul to $1.52 billion across 66 markets. Combined with its domestic total of $935.2 million, the film’s worldwide gross now sits at approximately $2.45 billion.

Given that steady international performance, the film is currently tracking to finish its original theatrical run somewhere between $2.5 billion and $2.6 billion worldwide, a target that would place it firmly among the highest-grossing releases in film history regardless of genre or studio.

That kind of return looks even more staggering when measured against the film’s production budget. With a reported net production cost of $225 million, not including marketing expenses, ‘Brand New Day’ has already earned back more than ten times its budget, making it one of the most profitable blockbusters of the entire year by any reasonable measure.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Holland alongside Zendaya and Sadie Sink, the film has already claimed several major distinctions along the way, including becoming the highest-grossing ‘Spider-Man’ film ever made, the highest-grossing release of 2026, and the third highest-grossing film of all time worldwide, trailing only two other franchise giants.

Reaching the $1.5 billion overseas threshold puts the film in genuinely rare company, joining a shortlist of only four other Hollywood releases to ever clear that specific international benchmark. For a franchise that’s spent over two decades as a reliable box office performer without necessarily topping the absolute highest tiers of all-time earnings, this level of sustained global dominance marks a genuine turning point for the character on the big screen.

With momentum still holding steady seven weekends into its run, ‘Brand New Day’ shows few signs of slowing its climb toward the $2.6 billion mark anytime soon. Given how consistently the film has outperformed typical late-run drop-off patterns throughout its release, there’s a real possibility its final total climbs even higher than current projections suggest.
