‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set Photos Showcase First Look Michael Mando Returning as Scorpion
Filming started on Spider-Man: Brand New Day a while ago, and set photos from Basingstoke, England, give fans their first glimpse of Michael Mando returning as Mac Gargan, also known as the Scorpion.
In the images, Mando is seen stepping out of a military-style helicopter. While it’s not entirely clear if the left side of his face still bears the scars from Spider-Man: Homecoming, fans are already speculating about his character’s role.

Mando has teased on social media that Scorpion might undergo a Venom-like transformation in the new film.
In the comics, Gargan even becomes a host for the Venom symbiote while impersonating Spider-Man as part of the Dark Avengers.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, with a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The cast includes Tom Holland as Peter Parker, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Mando, Tramell Tillman, and Marvin Jones III.
The project has been in development for several years. Sony began working on a fourth MCU Spider-Man film by August 2019.
Producer Amy Pascal confirmed in 2021 that the film would kick off a new trilogy of Holland-led Spider-Man movies. Cretton was brought on as director in October 2024, and the title Brand New Day was officially announced in March.
Principal photography started on August 3, in Glasgow, Scotland, under the working title Blue Oasis.
The Jackie Chan Stunt Team, known for coordinating action in Shang-Chi, is handling the fight sequences. The Glasgow shoot included city locations like Merchant City, George Square, and Trongate, which were used as New York City stand-ins. Tom Holland said he was excited to return to on-location filming after No Way Home had mostly been shot on soundstages due to the pandemic.
Set photos from Glasgow also showed armored vehicles marked with red demon logos, which some outlets like Total Film speculated could hint at the Inner Demons gang led by Mister Negative. Additionally, a rhinoceros-shaped reference bust suggested that Rhino might appear in the film, according to Glasgow World.
Filming later moved to Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey on August 7, then returned to Glasgow for additional shoots until August 18.
Soundstage work at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire took place throughout September. During filming, Tom Holland suffered a mild concussion on September 19, pausing production until September 29 while he recovered.
Recent Basingstoke set photos have confirmed that Marvin Jones III is playing Lonnie Lincoln, also known as Tombstone, after previously voicing the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). Filming in Basingstoke is expected to continue through early October.
