Mark Ruffalo has never been shy about using his platform for politics. The 58-year-old actor has endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders in the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, criticized the Israeli military’s actions in Gaza, and called on world governments to address climate change.

With the midterm elections less than a month away, voting procedures have become a major flashpoint. President Donald Trump has long alleged that mail-in voting is inherently fraudulent and has backed measures such as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, which proposes requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote in federal elections.

Ruffalo has now made his position on that fight unmistakably clear. Speaking at a “Hands Off Our Vote” event in New York City on Sunday night, the Marvel star slammed Trump over efforts to restrict voting and declared that he was ready to “Hulk out” to stop them.

Ruffalo opened by stressing the stakes of the upcoming vote. “This is a big, big deal, this election,” he told the crowd, according to Variety. He warned that he expected opponents to try to stop Democrats from taking the country back before addressing the president directly and leading the audience in chants of “hands off.” His language quickly grew more heated, peppered with expletives aimed at Trump.

When someone in the crowd yelled out, “You tell ’em, Hulk!”, Ruffalo leaned into his famous role. He laughed and said he was going to Hulk out, adding the character’s classic warning that people wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.

The actor also took a playful moment to remind the crowd of his Marvel status. He joked that people thought he was out for the count, but that he’s still here and still playing the Hulk.

That line will resonate with Marvel fans. Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner recently appeared in a new ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ scene in which Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom uses Latverian magic to grab Banner from a secure underground prison.

Beyond the soundbites, Ruffalo raised concerns about election cybersecurity. He warned of possible vulnerabilities as votes are transferred from polling places to county headquarters and then to states.

He urged voters to join the organization Free Speech for People in challenging insecure voting systems. Ruffalo closed by telling the crowd not to be afraid or intimidated and to get out and vote.

The rally comes amid an ongoing legal battle over mail-in ballots. Trump has pushed the U.S. Postal Service to send mail-in ballots only to states that have provided his administration with their voter rolls, but the Supreme Court last month refused to clear the way for that plan before the midterms.

Robert De Niro also delivered a heated speech at the same event. Conservative outlets were quick to criticize both actors, with RedState mocking the pair’s appearances and accusing Ruffalo of misusing the Hulk character for political purposes.

Ruffalo has also recently clashed with Hollywood’s corporate giants. He has been outspoken against the Paramount and Warner Bros. merger, and after it closed last week, he argued it would stifle creativity, weaken free speech and cost people their jobs.

That criticism drew its own backlash. Paramount accused him of invoking antisemitic tropes, and he was also called out by Jewish advocacy groups. As the midterms approach, it seems unlikely Ruffalo will be stepping away from the political spotlight anytime soon. Whether audiences cheer or criticize his approach, he has made it clear he intends to keep speaking out.
