Spider-Man Fans Might Have to Wait a Lot Longer for That Symbiote Suit, According to Tom Holland

Tom Holland has spent the better part of a decade in the red and blue suit, and with ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ now in theaters, the actor has been fielding every question imaginable about where Peter Parker goes next. The film arrives as Holland marks nearly ten years playing Peter Parker, and press tours like this one tend to surface the questions fans have been sitting on for years.

One of those questions keeps circling back to a single loose thread from ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. Ever since a stray piece of Venom was left behind in the MCU during that film, fans have wondered when, or if, Holland’s Peter would ever slip into the black symbiote suit. It is a costume with real comic book weight behind it, and one that live action has only attempted once before.

That brings us to what Holland actually said. Speaking with Josh Horowitz, as shared by MCU fan account MCU The Direct on X, Holland admitted he is not sure the MCU could pull the look off. He praised Tobey Maguire’s black suit from ‘Spider-Man 3’ before turning to the real obstacle, saying the video game version set an impossibly high bar and that he does not know how anyone builds a similar suit without leaning on CG.

That comparison matters more than it might sound. Holland believes translating the black suit to the MCU is a unique challenge largely because of Insomniac Games’ critically acclaimed Spider-Man series on PlayStation, and his comment points to a genuine creative hurdle, translating a design built around fluid, organic movement into something that can be practically worn and filmed on a live-action set.

The symbiote suit was not the only rumor Holland tried to put to rest. With ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ rumored to be the storyline that finally gives Spider-Man his black costume, Horowitz pressed him on it directly, and Holland insisted he genuinely has no idea what that film has in store. He explained that he believes his own ignorance is by design, since Marvel knows he is on a press tour and considers that secrecy its biggest asset, adding that not even a recent trip with Joe Russo gave him any hints.

Do you think symbiote Spider-Man will appear soon?

It is worth noting Holland has not been dodging the topic entirely throughout this press run. He previously told a young fan at a Cinépolis event in Mexico that he could not confirm whether the suit would appear in the new film, though he remained confident audiences would eventually see it. That mix of honesty and evasiveness has become something of a pattern for him this cycle, and it is keeping fan speculation alive rather than putting it to bed.

For now, the symbiote suit remains one of the MCU’s most anticipated ideas without an actual release date attached to it. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal have separately discussed their hope of eventually bringing Venom into the MCU, which only adds fuel to theories that a full symbiote arc is coming eventually, even if Holland himself cannot say when.

Do you think the MCU should even attempt a live action symbiote suit, or is Tobey Maguire’s black costume from ‘Spider-Man 3’ impossible to top?
