Spy Classroom, also known as Spy Room, is a Japanese light novel series written by Takemachi and illustrated by Tomari. Fujimi Shobo published the first volume in January 2020 and since then, seven main series volumes and two short story volumes have been released. On Sunday, the live-streamed Fantasia Bunko Online Festival 2022 event announced that the series is receiving its TV anime adaptation.

Keiichiro Kawaguchi (Frame Arms Girl, Higurashi: When They Cry – GOU) is directing the adaptation at studio feel. with Shinichi Inozume (Gangsta, Platinum End) supervising the scripts and Sumie Kinoshita (Forest of Piano, Girlish Number, Idoly Pride) designing the characters. Yuichiro Umehara and Sora Amamiya are cast to play Lily and Klaus- an unusual spy and his inexperienced trainee.

The light novel series is generally well received, and some of the reviews include Rebecca Silverman from Anime News Network who praised the story as original and amusing and Demelza from Anime UK News who complimented the first volume as particularly “unique”, especially in comparison to other light novels available in English.

Yen Press, the publisher of the light novel series, describes the story:

Following a devastating military conflict, countries fight their wars in the shadows. One unusual spy, Klaus, has never failed on the job despite his quirks, and he is building a team to take on an Impossible Mission—one with over a 90 percent chance of failure. However, his chosen members are all washouts with no practical experience. They’ll have to use every trick in the book (and some that aren’t) to prove they’re up to the task!

The release date for this comedy-series adaptation is yet to be announced. An official Twitter account for it has just been opened and they’ve released a teaser visual and video announcing its main cast and staff. Check it out below:
