Amazon has secured the rights to adapt Collision, a short novel from Don Winslow’s upcoming collection called The Final Score. According to Deadline, the bidding for the project was intense, but Amazon came out on top. Jake Gyllenhaal will both star in and produce the film, working alongside his Nine Stories producing partner Josh McLaughlin and Shane Salerno from The Story Factory.

Collision follows a devoted husband and father who makes a terrible mistake that lands him in prison. While inside, he must figure out how to survive. However, the story doesn’t stop there, after his release, he learns the reason he was protected during his time behind bars and is sent on a life-changing mission.

This film will mark another collaboration between Winslow and Amazon. The company is also teaming up with Working Title to release Crime 101, a movie based on a different Winslow story, set to come out on President’s Day weekend in 2026. That film is written and directed by Bart Layton and stars big names like Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry, and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Gyllenhaal recently worked with Amazon on Road House, directed by Doug Liman. The movie was a huge hit on Prime Video, drawing over 50 million viewers in its first two weekends. Following this success, Amazon MGM Studios signed a first-look deal with Gyllenhaal’s production company Nine Stories. Guy Ritchie is currently directing the sequel, Road House 2, with Gyllenhaal returning both as star and producer.

The Final Score, which is the collection’s title story, is expected to be shopped to buyers after the July 4th holiday.

Stephen King recently praised Winslow’s collection on X, telling his 7 million followers that it’s “the best crime fiction I’ve read in twenty years.” This endorsement boosted the book’s sales ahead of its HarperCollins release on September 17.

Gyllenhaal isn’t new to producing. After executive producing and starring in Apple’s series Presumed Innocent, which became one of Apple TV+’s most-watched dramas, he’s set to produce its second season. He’s also been on Broadway, starring in Othello alongside Denzel Washington. Over his career, he’s earned three Golden Globe nominations and three Tony nominations as both an actor and producer.

Don Winslow is a well-known and award-winning writer whose work has drawn attention from many top directors and actors, including Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Mann, Ridley Scott, and more.
