Steve Rogers Fights a New Kind of War in Upcoming Captain America Comic Series

Steve Rogers is heading back into action, and back into the past, in a brand-new Captain America comic coming this July. The story takes place right after he wakes up from the ice, but before he joins the Avengers. This new series is written by Chip Zdarsky, known for his work on Daredevil, and the art is by Valerio Schiti, who has drawn Avengers before.

The first issue opens with Captain America in a high-speed chase on a motorcycle. He’s chasing down a suicide bomber, using his shield to block bullets and take the guy down. Later, people in suits are watching him as he fights test dummies, tracking his strength and reactions like some kind of science experiment.

The world Steve wakes up to isn’t the one he left behind. While he was frozen in ice, everything changed. Battles aren’t always fought out in the open anymore. Now, it’s all about secrets, hidden enemies, and shady politics.

In this new world, Steve finds himself facing a serious challenge when Victor Von Doom takes over Latveria. Steve has to decide—does he learn how to fight in the shadows like everyone else, or does he stay true to who he is and do things his own way?

Zdarsky told Newsarama that he’s really enjoying working on the series. “I’m having a blast,” he said. “I’ve got the same feeling as I did when I started Daredevil, where each issue felt incredibly special, so I hope people feel the same way when they finally get to read it.” He also added that even though the story is set in the past, it will reveal some major things that will shape what’s coming next.

The new series, Captain America (2025) #1, hits shelves on July 2. The issue is written by Chip Zdarsky, with art by Valerio Schiti, colors by Frank Martin, and a cover by Ben Harvey.
