‘Stranger Things’ Actor Pokes Fun at Timothee Chalamet’s Take on Ballet and Opera
Gaten Matarazzo is proving that his comedic timing extends well beyond the supernatural mysteries of Hawkins, recently taking a playful swipe at Hollywood’s current “it boy,” Timothée Chalamet.
In a chaotic and highly specific parody shared to Instagram, the Stranger Things star teamed up with The Goldbergs lead Sean Giambrone to promote their new project, Pizza Movie.
The video, which features the duo shouting at the camera from a park picnic table, was an unmistakable imitation of a viral promo Chalamet recorded for his own film, Marty Supreme, late last year.
The sketch began with Matarazzo bellowing the release details of their upcoming stoner comedy with theatrical intensity. “Pizza Movie is an American film. It comes out on April 3, 2026,” he yelled, while Giambrone popped into the frame to clarify that the film would be skipping a traditional cinema run.
“It’s on Hulu, streaming! It’s not in theaters, we wanted it to be in theaters, but they said ‘No!’” Giambrone added, matching Matarazzo’s decibel level as the camera zoomed in for dramatic effect. Beyond the physical comedy, the pair saved their sharpest jab for the very end of the clip, addressing a recent controversy involving Chalamet and the fine arts.
“By the way, we want to be clear that we love the ballet and the opera!” they screamed in unison before the screen cut to a graphic. This was a direct reference to comments Chalamet made during a town hall earlier in March, where he suggested that “no one really cares” about those art forms, a remark that sparked a massive backlash from the dance and classical music communities.
While the “feud” appears to be entirely in good fun, it has successfully put Pizza Movie at the center of the cultural conversation just days before its official debut. Directed by the former Saturday Night Live writing duo BriTANicK, the film follows Matarazzo and Giambrone as two college roommates who ingest an experimental drug that forces them on a surreal, high-stakes journey to find a specific slice of pizza.
The movie, which premiered to positive buzz at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this month, has been praised for its fast-paced, absurd humor and the palpable chemistry between its two young leads.
With its official release set for April 3 on Hulu and Disney+, the project marks a significant step for both Matarazzo and Giambrone as they move past the child-star labels of their respective long-running series. By leaning into self-aware, internet-savvy marketing, the duo has ensured that their “American film” won’t be flying under the radar.
