The Stranger Things universe is about to expand with a brand-new spinoff, and fans are finally getting a glimpse of what’s coming.

In a recent interview with Variety, creators Matt and Ross Duffer revealed that work on the live-action series will begin on January 5.

The spinoff will explore new mysteries, including the strange rock that Henry Creel encountered in the cave. “The spinoff is going to delve into that and explain it, and you’re going to understand it. But it’s a completely different mythology,” the Duffers said. They emphasized that it won’t focus on familiar threats like the Mind Flayer, but will instead introduce fresh stories and new characters.

According to the Duffers, the series will feature a completely different story, location, and cast from the original Stranger Things. It will also be set in a different decade, giving the show room to explore untouched parts of the universe. The creators are closely involved but will not serve as the showrunners.

Fans may get their first hint of the new series from a single scene in the Stranger Things finale. Ross Duffer hinted that this moment provides a clue about what’s to come, but details remain scarce.

“It’s very different … but it’s also very much ‘Stranger Things,’” the creators added. The spinoff promises to answer some lingering questions while still delivering the suspense, mystery, and style fans love.
