Stranger Things is still pulling in huge numbers on Netflix, and fans are clearly getting ready for the show’s big ending. According to Netflix’s latest Engagement Report, the series picked up a massive 404.10 million viewing hours in just the first half of 2025. This covers all four seasons of the hit sci-fi horror drama.

The boost in viewership started building throughout mid-2024, likely because fans were preparing for the long-awaited release of season 5. The show has consistently been one of Netflix’s most popular, but the new data shows just how strong its following remains years after its debut.

Looking at the numbers in Netflix’s report, season 4 led the way with 135.5 million hours watched globally between January and June 2025. Season 1 came in next with 97.7 million hours, followed by season 2 at 88.6 million and season 3 at 82.3 million. The report shows that people are either rewatching the whole story or catching up before the final season drops.

Season 5, which will be the final chapter of Stranger Things, is set to arrive on Netflix in three parts. According to Netflix, the first two volumes will drop on November 26 and December 25, 2025.

The big finale will be released on December 31. The final season will feature eight episodes and, as usual, it’s being handled by the Duffer brothers, along with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen.

All the main stars are returning for this last season. Fans will see Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Brett Gelman, Cara Buono, and Jamie Campbell Bower back in action. Amybeth McNulty, who appeared briefly last season, is now a regular. One of the biggest surprises is the addition of Linda Hamilton, joining the cast in a key role.

As for the story, Stranger Things 5 will pick up a year after the events of season 4, set in the fall of 1987. The main group is focused on tracking down and stopping Vecna once and for all, after the Rifts opened up in Hawkins.

Things get more dangerous when the military arrives and starts hunting Eleven. With the anniversary of Will Byers’s disappearance coming up, the friends have to stick together for one final fight, facing an enemy even deadlier than Vecna.

While the cast list is stacked with familiar faces, the season also includes Joe Chrest, Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly, Alex Breaux, and Sherman Augustus in supporting roles.

With viewership for Stranger Things climbing so high, Netflix’s decision to stretch out the release of the final season across three dates seems like a smart move. Fans are clearly ready to return to Hawkins one last time.
