‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ Just Landed The Season 5 News Fans Have Been Anxiously Awaiting

For a show that started as a quiet Canadian import, ‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ has turned into one of The CW’s most talked about success stories. The romantic drama, based on Robyn Carr’s bestselling novels, follows neurosurgeon Maggie Sullivan as she returns to her hometown in Nova Scotia and gets pulled back into the lives, and love triangles, she left behind. The series has served as The CW’s first window home in the United States since its very first season.

Season 4 wrapped up in June, and in the weeks that followed, the show’s future felt genuinely uncertain. While reports suggested a renewal deal was close, the wait continued with no formal word from the network. That silence only made the eventual announcement land harder for the fandom that has kept ‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ trending online.

Now the wait is officially over. Sullivan’s Crossing season 5 has been renewed by The CW and will air in 2027. The pickup keeps the series on its usual yearly cadence, following a similar renewal from CTV and Crave in Canada just over a month earlier.

Like previous seasons, season 5 will run for 10 episodes. Production on the new season is set to begin in Nova Scotia later this summer. That timeline suggests fans will likely see fresh footage and casting updates well before the season actually premieres.

Part of what pushed The CW toward a swift decision seems to be the numbers. Sullivan’s Crossing has averaged more than 1 million cross platform viewers per episode for the network this season alone. On linear television, the show saw a 62 percent ratings increase in the important 18 to 49 demographic and a 26 percent jump among adults 25 to 54. Total viewership climbed 30 percent, while on demand viewing rose 44 percent within a week of episodes airing, a boost widely credited to the show’s growing presence on Netflix.

‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ Season 4 Keeps Maggie’s Secrets Front and Center as the Truth Threatens Everything

Behind the scenes, season 5 will also mark a creative shift. Floyd Kane, previously known for creating the four season Canadian series ‘Diggstown,’ is stepping in as the new head writer and showrunner. He takes over from creator Roma Roth, who is departing the showrunner post to focus on her new series ‘Thunder Point,’ though she will remain on board as an executive producer.

Fans returning to the Crossing will do so without Scott Patterson, who played patriarch Harry “Sully” Sullivan for the show’s first three seasons. Patterson exited the series ahead of season 4 due to creative differences, according to the actor. Season 5 will pick up in the aftermath of the season 4 finale, which saw Maggie’s ex husband Liam resurface at the worst possible moment for her relationship with Cal. Chad Michael Murray and Morgan Kohan are both expected back to navigate the fallout.

With Maggie caught between Cal and Liam all over again, and a brand new showrunner steering the story, how do you think ‘Sullivan’s Crossing’ should resolve that love triangle once season 5 finally airs?
