‘Super Mario’ Star Anya Taylor-Joy Turns Dior’s Paris Front Row Into a Gothic Lace Fantasy
Few fashion weeks generate as much buzz as Paris, and Dior show day tends to be the moment the celebrity circuit collectively holds its breath. For anyone keeping tabs on Anya Taylor-Joy’s Dior appearances, the only real question this season was which direction the actor would take her front-row style.
The backdrop was a packed calendar, with the Spring/Summer 2027 season running from September 28 to October 6, featuring 68 shows and 33 presentations. At the center of it all was Jonathan Anderson, who was set to unveil his Spring/Summer 2027 womenswear collection for the house.
Anderson had already teased guests with a quirky invitation. Alongside a personalized message, each guest received 2 knobbly walnuts in a box, a nod to the Chinese wénwán tradition of rolling pairs of nuts in the hand until the shells take on a smooth, amber patina.
The choice was about more than whimsy. “We chose objects that bring good luck, in tribute to Mr. Dior’s superstitious nature,” Olivier Bialobos, Dior’s deputy managing director in charge of global communication and image, told WWD. Ahead of the show, Anderson also previewed a set of playful objects, including swan-shaped minaudières, worm-filled fruits, and floral-printed heels.

On September 29, shortly before Anderson debuted his Spring/Summer 2027 show, Taylor-Joy rushed from her hotel to take her place in the front row. Rather than going soft and romantic, she leaned all the way into drama.
Her outfit started with a sheer shirt featuring a ruffled neckline and see-through, poncho-style lace that fell from her shoulders all the way to the ground. She balanced that caped, club-ready energy with a knee-length pencil skirt, then finished the look with pointed pumps, slim silver sunglasses, and a scarf worn backwards at the neck.
Photos circulating online show her platinum hair falling in loose waves, with the black neckpiece sitting high like a choker against the Dior backdrop. Marie Claire pointed out that she was one of the few A-listers opting for such a seemingly understated skirt at the show, while also noting that black is by far her go-to shade when attending Anderson’s shows.

The look is the latest chapter in a long partnership. Taylor-Joy has been the face of the French fashion house since 2021 and rarely misses its star-studded runway shows, and that loyalty has only grown under a designer who is the first person since Christian Dior himself to oversee all of the house’s major lines, including menswear, women’s ready-to-wear, and haute couture.
Her recent Dior moments have covered serious stylistic ground. At the Toronto International Film Festival last September, she previewed a woven princess-blue gown that later appeared on Anderson’s spring 2026 runway. At his January couture debut, she wore a standout piece from the men’s collection: a Paul Poiret-inspired trench embellished with ombré fur bell sleeves.
Then came spring energy. When Anderson presented his fall 2026 collection at the Jardin des Tuileries in March, Taylor-Joy arrived in a peach slip dress with a matching shawl draped over her shoulders, carrying a rose in her hand.

Against that backdrop, this week’s gothic lace feels like a deliberate pivot. Comic Basics described the ensemble as dramatic without being loud and well suited to Anderson’s romantic, slightly eccentric vision, suggesting that is exactly why she remains one of Dior’s most dependable front-row presences.
