With the release of Superman just weeks away, excitement is building, but so is concern. The film marks the first major project in the new DC Universe, and fans are hoping it lands well. David Corenswet steps into the role of Clark Kent, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult taking on Lex Luthor.

While the movie has generated buzz, it also faces big challenges. It’s launching after the official end of the DCEU, and many fans are still divided over that transition.

James Gunn and Peter Safran now lead DC Studios, and they’ve mostly moved on from the previous era’s cast. Jason Momoa is the rare exception, returning to the new DCU as Lobo in Supergirl.

Some longtime fans, especially those loyal to director Zack Snyder’s vision, aren’t happy with the changes. Many don’t accept Corenswet as a replacement for Henry Cavill. One user on a Snyder-focused subreddit even called for others to tank the film’s ratings online.

That post was quickly removed, and moderators said they don’t support that kind of behavior. Director James Gunn responded to the situation, saying such efforts only help the film gain more attention.

Shortly after that controversy, a report from the National Research Group revealed projections for the movie’s opening weekend. Current forecasts suggest it could make about $135 million in the U.S. Some estimates go higher, up to $175 million, while others are more cautious, with insiders guessing it might open closer to $90 million. If that happens, it could raise concerns for a movie expected to launch a brand-new DC franchise.

Now, fans on Reddit are trying to boost the film’s chances. A recent post in the DC_Cinematic subreddit urged fellow fans to support Superman and make sure it doesn’t flop. The thread is gaining traction, showing that many fans want to give this reboot a fair shot.

Still, even with solid fan support, many believe that won’t be enough. Some point out that DC fans alone can’t carry the movie to box office success. It also needs to attract regular moviegoers, especially families and kids, to reach the numbers needed.

This situation has reminded some of Marvel’s Thunderbolts, which failed to draw big crowds even though it had a strong story. That movie struggled because most of its characters weren’t widely known outside of Marvel’s core fanbase. Although Superman is a much more iconic hero, the film still needs to appeal to a broad audience.

There’s also growing fatigue among viewers when it comes to superhero films. After dozens of Marvel and DC movies and shows, many people feel burned out. Some say it’s too hard to keep up, and others just aren’t interested anymore. Unless Superman offers something fresh, it might struggle to stand out, even with a famous name.
