Supernatural Horror Anime Will Return for a Second Season
The hit supernatural horror anime The Summer Hikaru Died is officially returning for a second season.
The announcement came shortly after the finale of Season 1 aired in Japan, accompanied by a new video and key visual teasing the continuation. However, a specific release date for the new season has not been shared yet.

The series, based on the manga by Mokumokuren, began serialization on Kadokawa Shoten’s Young Ace Up website in August 2021.
The story centers on Yoshiki Tsujinaka, a teenager living in rural Japan, whose friend Hikaru Indo becomes possessed by a mysterious otherworldly entity. The narrative follows Yoshiki as he navigates the dangers brought on by the possession while trying to maintain their friendship.
Mokumokuren originally created the story while preparing for exams and shared early sketches on Twitter. The online exposure led to the manga being picked up for serialization.
Since its debut, the manga has become a commercial and critical success, with the first collected volume selling 200,000 copies within three months and earning praise for its artwork, storytelling, and character development.
The first anime adaptation, produced by CygamesPictures, aired from July to September. Ryōhei Takeshita directed the series, also handling series composition, while Yuichi Takahashi managed character designs and chief animation direction.

The show aired on Nippon TV and its affiliates in Japan, with streaming availability worldwide on Netflix and free streaming in Japan via Abema.
The announcement of a second season has sparked excitement among fans, who praised the first season’s tense horror elements and strong character development. With Season 1’s story leaving several plot threads unresolved, anticipation is high for the continuation.
