Switch 2 Power Impresses ‘Civilization VII’ Devs: “Like a Mid-Tier PC”

The new Nintendo Switch 2 is getting a lot of attention, and now the team behind Sid Meier’s Civilization VII has shared their thoughts. The game’s developer, Firaxis, is working on a special version of Civ VII for the Switch 2.
In a chat with Stephen Totilo of Game File, the game’s executive producer Dennis Shirk said the graphics on the new console are very good.
“We were able to make this look like a mid-tier PC, because it’s got enough power.” He also said the team was very pleased with what the Switch 2 can do: “It’s got enough power… it made the team extremely happy.”
The game won’t just look better—it will also play better. Firaxis confirmed that Civilization VII on the Switch 2 will let players use the Joy-Con 2 like a mouse. This means you can point and click just like on a PC, which makes playing the game easier and more fun.
This news came after Nvidia, the company behind the Switch 2’s new chip, said the system has “10x the graphics performance” compared to the original Switch. Digital Foundry has also talked about how powerful the Switch 2 could be.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII will release on 5th June 2025, the same day as the Nintendo Switch 2. If you already own the game on the first Switch, you can upgrade to enjoy all the new features on the Switch 2.
