Sydney Sweeney has established herself as one of the most fearless performers of her generation, frequently gravitating toward roles that test her physical and psychological limits.

Long before she was performing her own stunts on major movie sets, however, she learned about the unpredictability of physical risks through a series of intense childhood accidents.

In a recent interview with W Magazine, the actress looked back on the formative injuries that left her with permanent reminders of her adventurous spirit. The most notable of these incidents occurred when Sweeney was only ten years old during a family outing on the water.

While attempting to perform a 360-degree rotation on a wakeboard, the maneuver went sideways as the edge of her board snapped up and collided with her face.

The impact was severe, resulting in a deep laceration near her eye that required seventeen stitches to close. Even now, years into her professional career, the faint scar from that afternoon remains a visible part of her story.

Her history of high-stakes hobbies didn’t stop at water sports, as she also recalled a significant injury from her time riding dirt bikes.

During one particular ride, she suffered a torn MCL, which added another permanent mark to her collection of physical history.

More recently, while filming the survival thriller Eden on location in Australia, she faced a different kind of hazard when an unidentified insect bit her. The bite eventually transformed into a keloid scar that she described as looking like a small crater, proving that even her professional environments carry their own share of physical toll.

Despite these past traumas, Sweeney has cultivated a mindset where fear acts as a motivator rather than a deterrent. She admitted that if something truly intimidates her, it usually becomes the very thing she feels compelled to tackle. This philosophy has clearly influenced her recent career choices, which have become increasingly physical and transformative.

Most recently, the actress has been making headlines for her role as the legendary boxer Christy Martin in the biopic titled Christy. To inhabit the role of the 1990s sports icon, she underwent a massive physical metamorphosis and insisted on performing her own stunts in the ring. The film follows Martin’s rise to fame and her personal struggles, showcasing a grittier side of Sweeney that fans haven’t seen before.

Beyond the boxing ring, she has had a busy year with the release of the psychological thriller The Housemaid, directed by Paul Feig. In this adaptation of the bestselling novel, she stars as Millie Calloway alongside Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar.14 The film has been a significant commercial success, already prompting the development of a sequel titled The Housemaid’s Secret, which is expected to begin production later this year.

Fans are also eagerly awaiting her return to the small screen as Cassie Howard in the third season of the hit HBO series Euphoria. After several production delays, the show is finally moving forward, promising to dive back into the heavy themes that made it a cultural phenomenon. Additionally, she is set to appear in the Ron Howard-directed thriller Eden, which features an ensemble cast including Jude Law, Ana de Armas, and Vanessa Kirby.

Whether she is training for a fight or navigating a suspenseful thriller, it is clear that the scars of her youth served as a precursor to her current professional dedication. She continues to prove that she is willing to bleed for her craft, turning every physical challenge into a badge of honor.
