Sydney Sweeney In Talks to Lead A24’s Bold and Comedic Spin on Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Masque of the Red Death’
A24 and Picturestart are working together on ‘The Masque of the Red Death,’ Deadline reports, a new version of Edgar Allan Poe’s story with a “darkly” funny twist. Sydney Sweeney is in talks to star, with Charlie Polinger writing, directing, and executive producing.
‘The Masque of the Red Death’ is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe about a prince named Prospero who tries to avoid a deadly plague called the Red Death. He throws a fancy, masked party in his castle, locking himself and his wealthy guests inside to stay safe. However, the Red Death finds its way in, showing that no one can escape death.
Sweeney herself already starred in a horror movie relatively recently, ‘Immaculate’ which received mixed reviews. Critics praised Sydney Sweeney’s performance, but opinions on the film’s execution were divided, with some appreciating its bold themes and others finding it uneven.
So far the details regarding this upcoming adaptation are scarce. A24 will be handling domestic distribution. More info will likely follow soon.
