While promoting her fun Baskin-Robbins commercial, Sweeney opened up in an interview about how the idea came together and how much she loved filming it. She said the team had this playful idea of her always being around or trying to sneak in, and it worked perfectly with her love of ice cream. “They made it playful. I was happy about that because it really shows my love for Baskin-Robbins,” she said.

Of course, with all that ice cream on set, she couldn’t resist digging in. “The problem is I kept eating all the ones they gave me. I’d half-eat one, and I’d half-eat the next one because they kept handing me really nice new cones. I’m like, ‘Well, I got to eat it.’ It was definitely one of the happiest moments of my life.”

The commercial gave off a Barbie vibe, full of pink and playfulness, which led to the big question: would she be up for joining the Barbie sequel if it ever happens? Her answer was clear. “I’d have to read a script, but I’m a huge, huge fan of Margot [Robbie], so I would not be opposed to it.” And when someone suggested she could play Barbie’s sister, Sweeney smiled and added, “Me too.”

While the Barbie sequel isn’t officially happening yet, fans online have already started talking about the idea of Sweeney joining the cast. The original Barbie movie, directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, became one of the biggest hits of 2023. It got strong reviews from both critics and fans, with an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A” CinemaScore from audiences.

At first, Gerwig said she had no sequel plans and hadn’t even started thinking about one. Then, a report from The Hollywood Reporter claimed that a new Barbie film was in early development with Gerwig and Noah Baumbach possibly returning. But Warner Bros. and their reps later denied those rumors.

Even so, the buzz hasn’t faded, and now Sweeney says she would love to be a part of the conversation.

In the meantime, Sweeney’s schedule is packed with new roles. She’s starring in The Housemaid, which she worked on with Amanda Seyfried. Sweeney said she was already a fan of the book and that filming it felt like a dream. She said it was a fast shoot but super fun, and she can’t wait for people to see it.

She’s also playing Christy Martin in a biopic about the famous boxer. Sweeney said Christy’s story really moved her because she went through so much, both in and out of the ring. Sweeney loves roles that require physical training too, and since she grew up doing kickboxing and grappling, this one felt like a great fit.

Another big project is Eden, a movie directed by Ron Howard. In it, Sweeney plays a real woman named Margret Wittmer, who moved from Germany to a remote island in the Galapagos in the 1930s to survive. Sweeney said the story is wild, and she had a great time learning about it.

She said she loves playing real people because it means doing a lot of research, and she actually enjoys that part. She’ll also be playing actress Kim Novak soon, and she’s already excited to start preparing for that one too.

So, with all these roles lined up, it’s clear Sweeney is keeping busy. But if a Barbie sequel really does happen, and they need a sister to join the fun, she’s more than ready.
