Sydney Sweeney Opens Up About Filming Steamy Scenes in ‘The Housemaid’

Paul Feig, known for comedies like Bridesmaids and The Heat, is stepping into new territory with his latest film, The Housemaid. Speaking to LADbible, Feig admitted that he was the “least comfortable” on set when it came to filming the movie’s intimate scenes.

The thriller, starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, features more physical and aggressive moments than his usual projects.

Feig explained that he was initially nervous about shooting the scenes, but he praised the cast for their openness and professionalism. “I mean I’m probably the least comfortable when shooting those kinds of scenes. But my cast was so open and free and just, kind of not hung up on anything. So that was really nice,” he said. The director credited intimacy coordinator Lizzy for helping guide the process and ensuring everyone felt safe.

The actors also shared their perspective. Sweeney called Feig a “very thoughtful, kind and considerate filmmaker” and noted that his nervousness during the scenes was actually endearing.

Seyfried added that while actors have more experience with stunts and intimate moments, Feig’s careful approach showed how much he cares about the cast’s comfort. “Please be careful, you don’t have to do that, if you don’t want to,” she recalled him saying.

Brandon Sklenar, another cast member, highlighted the teamwork involved. “We felt extremely comfortable, largely because Paul is who he is, and he’s just such a warm hearted, kind person,” he said. He added that Feig being more nervous than the actors showed “where his heart’s at” and contributed to the success of the scenes.

The Housemaid was shot in just 34 days, with the team tackling around 200 scenes. Despite the challenges, the collaboration between the director, actors, and the intimacy coordinator helped create a safe and professional environment for filming.

The Housemaid is scheduled to be released in the United States on December 19.
