Sydney Sweeney Reveals Her Dad and Grandpa Couldn’t Sit Through NSFW Scenes in ‘Euphoria’
Sydney Sweeney’s family was famously shocked when they first saw her more provocative scenes in the HBO hit Euphoria. In an interview for Sunday Today, the actress revealed that her father and grandfather were not prepared to see her in the gritty, adult-oriented drama, which frequently features nudity and intense s***** content. In fact, she admitted that the two men actually walked out the first time they tried to tune in.
While her mother had visited the set several times and was familiar with the story, her father had no warning. I didn’t prepare my dad at all, Sweeney told host Willie Geist. So he decided he was going to watch it without telling me, with his parents. The result was a quick exit for the male members of the family. My dad and my grandpa turned it off and walked out, she said.
However, her grandmother, whom she describes as a huge supporter, was not phased by the graphic scenes. Sweeney often brings her grandmother along to various film sets and even incorporates her as an extra. Despite the awkward family viewing session, the actress remains incredibly proud of the show’s cultural impact and the depth she found in her character, Cassie Howard.
She’s a beautiful, broken character, Sweeney shared. I love playing Cassie, especially last season because she was so crazy. As an actor, that’s just so much fun to kind of stretch your legs and play characters that go insane. She noted that finding the emotional layers behind Cassie’s “insane” choices has been one of the highlights of her career so far.
As of early 2026, Sydney Sweeney’s career has reached a new stratosphere following the massive box office success of her 2025 thriller The Housemaid. Directed by Paul Feig and co-starring Amanda Seyfried, the film earned over $250 million worldwide.
Additionally, fans are eagerly awaiting her appearance in The Devil Wears Prada 2, which is slated to hit theaters on May 1.
Television fans also have reason to celebrate, as HBO has finally confirmed that Euphoria Season 3 will premiere on April 12, 2026. The new season will reportedly feature a significant time jump, moving the characters into adulthood five years after their high school graduation. This shift allows the show to address the aging of its cast while introducing a fresh “noir” tone to the suburban drama.
Given the five-year time jump in the upcoming season of Euphoria, do you think Cassie Howard will have finally found some stability, or are you hoping to see her return to the “insane” and “broken” energy that Sydney Sweeney loves to play? Share your thoughts in the comments.
