Sydney Sweeney has opened up about some of the pressures she faced trying to make it in Hollywood as a teenager. In an interview with Variety, the Christy star talked about auditioning for movies and TV shows while growing up in rural Idaho.

She revealed that a casting professional once suggested she get Botox at just 16 years old to improve her chances. “I have very strong eyebrow muscles,” Sweeney said, demonstrating by furrowing her brows. “And I had someone tell me to fix my face or else I’m not going to make it. I should get Botox. I was 16!”

She also shared another difficult audition experience, where the casting director wasn’t paying attention while she read a scene. “I’m like, ‘You’re not paying attention at all,’” she said.

Despite facing these challenges, Sweeney chose not to get any cosmetic procedures and still managed to impress The White Lotus creator, Mike White. “There was just something very unaffected by her,” he told Variety.

“She was very likable. And I thought that that would be helpful because the part is so unlikable on the page. Then in editing, you realize she just pops on-screen. She’s obviously lovely in person and photogenic. But my eyes kept going to her, no matter who’s in the scene with her. That’s natural screen magnetism that is hard to quantify. She just has that. I don’t know what makes somebody a star, but there is something about her that just is.”

Both Sweeney now showed how young actors often face pressure to alter their looks or identities to fit Hollywood standards. Despite these challenges, Sweeney stuck to herself and found success on her own terms.
