Sydney Sweeney Speaks Out on Dating Rumors with Glen Powell

Sydney Sweeney is addressing the dating rumors that surfaced during the promotion of her movie Anyone But You. Fans and tabloids speculated endlessly about her chemistry with co-star Glen Powell, but Sweeney says the speculation got out of hand.

“Honestly, the press did it themselves. There was no leaning in, per se,” Sweeney told Variety while promoting upcoming biopic Christy.

“Truly the tabloids and journalists just created it and kept going. Even if we were just standing next to each other, it was ‘They’re standing two inches apart!’ Glen and I genuinely care for each other and have a love and respect for one another. I love being with him. And I think people just truly saw a really beautiful pairing.”

The rumors were fueled by the actors’ on-set closeness during filming. Fans were quick to “ship” the pair online, especially since Sweeney and Powell appeared comfortable and playful in photos. Neither of them publicly shut down the rumors at the time.

Sweeney says the connection with Powell could continue if a sequel were ever made. “We are always open to it,” she said. “I think that when the right concept and script come to Glen and I, we will jump in hand in hand.”

However, the rumors had real-life consequences. In 2023, Glen Powell and his then-fiancée Gigi Paris ended their relationship. Paris later revealed on the “Too Much” podcast that the buzz surrounding Anyone But You played a role in their breakup. She said she first learned about the rumors online and warned Powell, “The whole world is watching. Proceed with caution, please.”

Paris explained that the situation worsened while filming in Australia. She was planning to visit Powell on set when he called her, saying, “The producers and I have discussed that I think it’s best that you don’t come to visit.”

Paris said that moment led her to fall out of love, and she ended the relationship shortly after. She also revealed that she later learned Powell and Sweeney had encouraged the speculation to help promote the movie.
