Sydney Sweeney’s Dramatic Transformation Revealed in First Look at ‘Christy’ Biopic
Sydney Sweeney is set to star as Christy Martin, the famous boxer who became one of the biggest female sports stars in the 1990s.
The movie, called Christy, tells the story of Martin’s rise in the boxing world and also covers the shocking event when her husband tried to kill her in 2010.
Fans have already got a first look at Sydney Sweeney in character as Christy Martin, showing a dramatic transformation for the role. The photos highlight her strong physical presence, fitting for portraying the boxing icon.

The film is directed by David Michôd, who also co-wrote the script with Mirrah Foulkes. According to reports, Martin herself is involved in the making of the movie to make sure the story is told accurately.
What’s interesting is that Sweeney was initially attacked by fans online as she was undergoing extensive physical training. Sweney was described as overweight in the comments, as being “mid,” and “not that attractive” among a plethora of other descriptors. The actress decided to respond to fans by uploading a video of her working out.
This is the perfect way to shut down body shaming comments, as Sweeney proved she is actually in her peak form. The actress recently commented on her upcoming role and revealed how intensive the preparations are:
“I grappled and did kickboxing from 12-19 years old. I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body. Christy’s story isn’t a light one, it’s physically and emotionally demanding, there’s a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself.”
The cast includes some well-known names like Ben Foster playing Martin’s husband James V. Martin, Merritt Wever as Joyce Salters, Katy O’Brian, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, and Chad L. Coleman, among others.
Filming started in North Carolina by the end of September 2024 and wrapped up on November 15, 2024. The production was handled by several companies including Anonymous Content and Black Bear Pictures, with Sydney Sweeney also serving as a producer.
The film is planned to have its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in September. This was confirmed by industry sources reporting on the film’s progress and festival plans.
