Sydney Sweeney’s Has a Perfect Take on the James Bond Girl Rumors

Sydney Sweeney is busy promoting her new film, Christy, where she plays the famous boxer Christy Martin.

The sports drama follows Martin’s rise in the 1990s and her survival after a violent attack by her husband in 2010. The movie is directed by David Michôd, who co-wrote it with Mirrah Foulkes. Christy premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5 and will hit theaters on November 7 through Black Bear Pictures.

While talking to Variety, Sweeney addressed rumors that she could be the next James Bond girl. Some of the speculation comes from her connections to Amazon, which now controls the Bond franchise. Sweeney also has a business connection with Jeff Bezos through her new lingerie line and attended his wedding in June.

When asked about the rumors, Sweeney gave a playful but honest response. “I can’t. [Seven-second pause.] I don’t know. [Ten-second pause.] To be honest, I don’t know all the Bond rumors, but I’ve always been a huge fan of the franchise, and I’m excited and curious to see what they do with it,” she said.

Sweeney also shared her own thoughts about potentially joining the franchise. “Depends on the script,” she said. “I think I’d have more fun as James Bond.”

The next James Bond movie, often referred to as Bond 26, will introduce a new actor to the role following Daniel Craig’s exit after No Time to Die.

This film will also mark the first Bond under Amazon’s creative control. The studio has brought Denis Villeneuve on board to direct the project. Villeneuve, currently finishing his Dune trilogy, said, “Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory.”

He added, “This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor. Amy [Pascal], David [Heyman], and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust.” Villeneuve is expected to begin work on Bond 26 after finishing Dune: Part Three, which is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.

With Sydney Sweeney’s playful reaction to the Bond rumors and Denis Villeneuve leading the next 007 film, fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.
