Sydney Sweeney is once again at the center of attention after a scene in Euphoria season 3 sparked talk about multiple “wardrobe malfunction” moments during her character Cassie’s wedding.

The scenes quickly went viral, but the real story behind them is different from what viewers assumed. Costume lead Natasha Newman-Thomas explained in an interview with InStyle that these moments were not accidents. They were planned as part of the design.

She said the team worked with a custom corseted wedding dress created by designer Jackson Wiederhoeft. During filming and even during rehearsal, the same type of moments kept happening naturally. Instead of fixing it by fully securing the dress, the team chose to keep it that way in the final version.

Newman-Thomas explained that Sydney Sweeney was intentionally not tightly taped into the dress. This allowed the look to shift during movement, which created the effect seen on screen. The team even created custom coverings using matching beaded material so everything still felt designed, just less controlled.

She spoke directly about the decision, saying, “Sydney kept having nip slips,” and added, “And I was like, ‘Okay, we’re not going to tape her in. We’re going to embrace it.’ And I was like, We’re going to make custom pasties out of the same hand-beaded fabric and embrace the nip slip because that’s so Cassie.”

According to her, the costume was not just about shock moments. It was also tied to Cassie’s personality and emotional state in the story. She explained that the dress was meant to look beautiful and dramatic, but also slightly off in a way that fits the character.

She said, “And we really wanted her to feel special. And I wanted to make the most beautiful, sexy wedding dress with just the slightest touch of tackiness because it’s Cassie.”

The wedding episode is part of a larger storyline in Euphoria season 3 that has already caused strong reactions online. Cassie’s arc has become more controversial this season, including her decision to start an OnlyFans account and use that income to help fund parts of her wedding.

Earlier episodes also faced criticism from viewers, especially for styling choices that some found extreme.

This is a clear example of how costume design can be used as storytelling, not just fashion. It also shows how small design choices can spark big reactions online. What do you think about this approach in Euphoria? Share your thoughts in the comments.
