Paramount+ has officially renewed Tulsa King for a fourth season. The announcement was made during the Season 3 red carpet event in New York, just days before the new season arrives on Paramount+ on Sunday, September 21.

The crime drama, created by Taylor Sheridan and starring Sylvester Stallone, has been a strong performer for the streaming service. It not only boosted ratings on the Paramount Network during its broadcast run but also set streaming records for Paramount+.

While critics have given mixed feedback on the writing, most reviews have praised Stallone’s leading role. The show even earned a Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award nomination in 2023.

Deadline reported that the next season will see a change behind the scenes. Terence Winter, who was part of the show at its start, is coming back as executive producer and head writer. Dave Erickson, who served as showrunner for season 3, is stepping down.

On Rotten Tomatoes, all five critics’ reviews for the show are currently positive, with an average score of 6.8/10. Jeff Ewing of Collider wrote that the second season “introduced new threats, but struggles to find its tone” and noted it had too many filler episodes before picking up later.

Joel Keller from Decider observed that the show has shifted in style: “Tulsa King has become less of a fish out of water story and more of a story about just what kind of absurd scheme Dwight and his motley crew can pull off.” He also said the first episode of the season tried to handle too many storylines at once.

Some reviews have focused on Stallone himself. Emiliano Basile of EscribiendoCine praised the actor, writing that Stallone “gives his character the characteristic charisma and powerful phrases that have accompanied him since Rocky.” Basile also pointed out the strong costume design and Sheridan’s commentary on U.S. cultural issues.

With its mix of praise, criticism, and controversy, Tulsa King has continued to spark conversations. The return of Terence Winter suggests season 4 could look and feel closer to the show’s original direction, while Stallone’s presence remains its biggest draw.
