Taylor Swift Goes Makeup-Free and Fans Can’t Believe Their Eyes
Taylor Swift celebrated her song Opalite reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on February 23 with a behind-the-scenes Instagram post, sharing clips from the studio. Some of the footage included a makeup-free video of Swift, showing her in a green oversized sweater with her natural blonde curls loose around her shoulders.
The singer wrote alongside the post, “Just a few Opalite memories to celebrate the Hot 100 #1 you guys just got this song!! This is actually the first time I’ve had two Hot 100 #1s off of one album since 1989 came out in 2014.”
While many fans praised her raw, natural look, others were skeptical about whether the woman in the clip was really Swift. On social media, some viewers focused on her facial features. “Is that really her? Nose is completely different,” wrote one user, according to Instagram reactions. Another added, “The nose isn’t nosing!!! Not her.”
Some commenters argued that makeup alone could not explain the difference. “There is no way makeup can cause THAT much of a difference. Nose shape and eyes are completely different,” one wrote.
Another user claimed, “Everything looks different! She has distinct round cheeks, a wider nose, her chin isn’t smooth, etc!” Some even speculated about cosmetic procedures. “I think she looked a lot better before getting the nose job,” said one, while another commented, “She had more work done than all the Kardashians put together.”

Elsewhere in the Instagram post, Swift appeared wearing a brunette wig and 1980s-inspired workout clothes. She wrote, “Never in my life have I felt so myself. This is actually who I was meant to be.”
Despite the backlash, many Swift fans defended the pop star. “Why does it matter what she looks like? It is her talent, work ethic, and kind heart that make her an admirable person,” one wrote.
Another added, “She looks beautiful either way. Some of these comments… guess hurt people hurt people.” One more fan said, “I think she’s still a beautiful lady without the makeup.”
Some viewers were surprised at how much styling and makeup can change a person’s appearance. “She could walk around without makeup and curly hair, and I feel like many would not know it’s her,” one said.
Others made lighthearted jokes, comparing her to her friend Ed Sheeran. “I thought it was Ed Sheeran,” one wrote. Another joked, “She looks like Ed Sheeran. Maybe they are the same person. They are both Uber talented.”
Opalite, released on February 7, is the second single from Swift’s 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl. The song became her 14th No. 1 on the Hot 100 and marked the first time since 1989 that she had two chart-toppers from the same album.
In my opinion, Taylor Swift’s makeup-free video shows that she is confident in sharing herself without filters, and it highlights how much public reaction focuses on appearance rather than talent. What do you think about the clip and the reactions online? Share your thoughts in the comments.
