‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Returns to Theaters This Summer for 35th Anniversary Celebration

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are heading back to movie theaters this summer, and it’s all part of a big celebration. The very first live-action TMNT movie is turning 35 years old, and fans will get a chance to watch it on the big screen again, with something extra thrown in.
Fathom Events is behind the special re-release. The movie will be shown for just two days, August 17 and August 19, and tickets are already available on their website. This isn’t just a normal showing of the 1990 film, it also comes with a brand-new behind-the-scenes feature called Turtles Unmasked.
Before the movie starts, fans will get to see old footage from the set, deleted scenes that were never released before, and a new interview with director Steve Barron. It’s a nice treat for anyone who’s seen the film more times than they can count. According to Fathom Events, the extra footage offers a fresh look at what it was like to make the movie all those years ago.
The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was a big deal when it came out in 1990. It brought Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo to life in a way that fans hadn’t seen before. They weren’t animated, they were actors in full turtle suits. And it worked. The suits, the story, and the cast made it feel like the turtles had jumped straight from the comic books and cartoons onto the screen.
Judith Hoag played April O’Neil, and Elias Koteas played Casey Jones, two characters that helped ground the story while still being part of the turtle-filled chaos. The movie mixed action, heart, and comedy in just the right way. Even the soundtrack was a hit. The song Turtle Power by Partners in Kryme became a fan favorite and is still remembered today.
One thing that stood out in the film was how it didn’t paint the world as too simple. Sure, it was a kids’ movie, but it wasn’t afraid to show that not everything could be fixed by the police, especially when dealing with a group of masked ninjas running wild in the city.
Now, decades later, the film is still loved by fans of all ages. And with the added featurette, this new release gives people another reason to revisit it, or even see it for the first time in theaters. It’s a chance to enjoy the turtles in all their early ’90s glory while also getting a rare look behind the curtain. You can get the tickets on the Fathom website.
Whether you’re a longtime fan or just getting into TMNT, this summer’s re-release is a great way to enjoy a classic. Just remember, it’s only playing for two days: August 17 and August 19.
So if you’ve been waiting for an excuse to yell “Cowabunga!” at a movie screen again, this is it.
