Legendary horror franchise Texas Chainsaw Massacre is set to return next February with the ninth installment in the series. But, this newest installment will disregard the previous seven movies and it’ll serve as a direct sequel to the original Tobe Hooper‘s movie The Texas Chain Saw Massacre from 1974.

Entertainment Weekly now offered us first look images, two of them to be exact, which are showing legendary maniac Leatherface and new characters who are probably next on his list. You can check the first look images below:

Directed by David Blue Garcia in his second project as a director, the newest movie in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise will star Nell Hudson, Elsie Fisher, Jacob Latimore, Moe Dunford, Mark Burnham, Alice Krige, Sarah Yarkin, Jessica Allain, Sam Douglas, William Hope, Jolyon Coy, and Olwen Fouéré.

The movie takes place almost 50 years after the events of the 1974 original. After nearly 5 decades in hiding, Leatherface will return to terrorize the group of young individuals that will find themselves in his world of horror, and Leatherface isn’t planning to let them go, at least not alive.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie was released in 1974, during the time when other, now legendary horror franchises were first created, like Halloween (which started in 1978), and Friday the 13th (1980). Tobe Hooper filmed the movie starring Marilyn Burns, Paul A. Partain, Edwin Neal, Jim Siedow, and Gunnar Hansen as Leatherface for only $140K. And although it was banned in some countries, the movie grossed almost $31 million, which was a huge success at the time.

The franchise spawned seven more movies until 2017 when the latest movie Leatherface was revealed. Leatherface received negative reviews and it grossed only $1.5 million. Lionsgate and Millennium Films lost the rights to produce the next movie in the franchise so this next film will be produced by Legendary Pictures.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre, direct sequel to the 1974 original, will be released exclusively on Netflix on February 18, 2022.
