Red and the gang are finally returning to the big screen. ‘The Angry Birds Movie 3’ brings back the hot-headed hero for a new adventure, this time with a very personal challenge: fatherhood.

According to the official synopsis, Red will face his greatest challenge yet as he tries to survive fatherhood while saving the world. The story is set over the holidays and centers on Red clashing with his kids as he juggles home life and a world-saving mission.

The animated sequel has now released a new trailer, as Global Box Office shared. The roughly 2-minute preview shows Red in the kitchen wearing a “Hangry Bird” apron while holding a box of spaghetti and a jar of pasta sauce, with Silver looking on.

That scene fits the film’s family-focused comedy. Earlier footage released in June showed baby birds causing chaos for Red, including a moment where he holds a small blue chick in a kitchen full of oversized knives.

The film introduces Red and Silver’s children. Walker Scobell voices Glider, their adventurous 16-year-old son, who loves Egg Ball, a bird sport inspired by American football.

Emma Myers plays June, their creative and independent 13-year-old daughter who wants more freedom. Psalm West voices Olly, the couple’s youngest hatchling, while James Austin Johnson plays Fuzzy, the family’s pet spider.

Jason Sudeikis is back as Red, with Rachel Bloom returning as Silver. Josh Gad voices Chuck, Danny McBride plays Bomb, and Tim Robinson returns as Porkchop. The voice cast also includes Keke Palmer, Lily James, Sam Richardson, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Nikki Glaser, Marcello Hernández and Anna Cathcart. YouTube stars MrBeast and Salish Matter are also part of the lineup.

John Rice, who co-directed ‘The Angry Birds Movie 2’, directs from a screenplay by Thurop Van Orman. Heitor Pereira returns to compose the score. The franchise also has a new home. Paramount Pictures took over distribution from Sony in April 2025, and the film is produced by Rovio Entertainment, Sega Sammy Group and Prime Focus Studios, with DNEG Animation handling the animation.

The film opens in theaters on December 23, including in RealD 3D. That puts it in the middle of one of the busiest holiday seasons in years. Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune: Part Three’ both arrive on December 18, just days before the birds land. Sony’s next ‘Jumanji’ film follows on December 25, adding another family-friendly blockbuster to the mix.

That competition will be tough. Still, as one of the few animated options during the holidays, ‘The Angry Birds Movie 3’ could find a strong audience among families looking for something lighter.

The sequel has taken years to arrive. Sony was reported to be developing it back in 2020, and Rovio announced the film was in production in June 2024. The release date also shifted along the way. It was briefly pushed to January 2027 before settling on its current holiday slot, and its teaser debuted at CinemaCon earlier this year.
