The Ark Season 3 has reached another major turning point, and this time, the biggest shock has nothing to do with Ark One. Episode 7, titled “I Have Nightmares,” puts Zed at the center of one of the season’s most emotional discoveries. What starts as another search for wreckage quickly turns into a painful reminder that the past may not be finished with him or the rest of the crew.

The episode, which aired on SYFY on September 9, picks up after the strange time loop that Ark One experienced in the previous episode. As usual, the crew does not get much time to recover. A new distress signal appears, sending them toward another ship and another dangerous situation.

The signal comes from Ark 16. When Ark One reaches the ship, the crew finds that everyone on board has been infected by a strange illness. The situation becomes even more serious when people from Ark One begin to show signs of the same infection. Suddenly, the crew has to deal with a possible outbreak while also trying to understand what caused it in the first place.

Dr. Sanjivni Kabir takes a much bigger role in this part of the story. She works to figure out what is making everyone sick and eventually finds a possible way to treat it. She also contacts Angus Medford because of his knowledge of plants. That small connection becomes important as the show continues to link the problems in space with the strange mysteries happening on the planet.

While Ark One deals with the infection, things are moving in a very different direction at Homebase-1. Zed, Trust and Felix Strickland continue looking into the wreckage that has been appearing on the planet. The mystery began when Felix found a piece of debris, and the group now has a much bigger reason to find out where it came from.

Then they get the answer Zed probably never wanted. The wreckage belongs to EF-1.

That name means everything to Zed because his son was on that ship when it disappeared. The discovery instantly turns what looked like a simple wreckage investigation into something deeply personal. After everything Zed has already been through, finding the remains of his son’s missing ship is a devastating moment. But there is one important detail that could completely change the story.

Bodies are found near the wreckage, but they do not appear to account for everyone who was aboard EF-1. That means some passengers may have escaped before the ship went down. For Zed, that leaves a painful but very real possibility: his son could still be alive somewhere on the planet.

The episode also raises more questions about Ves. Her earlier conversation with Milan now looks much more suspicious, especially after the truth about EF-1 comes to light. The show has already hinted at Ves’s connection to the mysterious Black Thorne group, and this new discovery could bring that storyline much closer to the main plot.

TV Fanatic was positive about the episode overall, especially when it came to Kabir getting more time to shine. However, the publication also pointed out that the season still spends more time with Ark One than with the slower mystery developing at Homebase-1.

That balance could become important as Season 3 moves toward its final episodes. There are still major questions surrounding the planet, Kelly’s tablet, Angus’s research into the local plants and Ves’s past. Now, Zed’s son’s fate has become another mystery that could have a huge impact on the story.

The Season 3 finale, “We Can’t Save Everyone,” is scheduled for October 15. With the season moving into its final stretch, the show has plenty of time to reveal what really happened to EF-1 and whether Zed’s son survived.

For now, Zed is left with something that is both heartbreaking and hopeful. He has finally found the ship that took his son away, but he still does not know whether his son is dead or somewhere out there waiting to be found. And honestly, that may be the most painful question of all.

What do you think Zed will discover about his son next?
